-i have been looking forward to making work showing some of my favorite creative people and this one was definately at the top to the list to make. i believe that alfred hitchcock is a painter among film directors and i believe cary grant to be the most effective and vivid actor that hitchcock used in his work. the milk glass image is from the film 'suspicion'. there is a scene where cary grant is walking up the stairs to bring a glass of milk to his wife in bed. the milk glass is almost glowing and his wife is wondering whether it is poisoned or not. i love this image and i wanted to use it to show a relationship between creator and creation. i love a film maker's ability to envision a world and then create it. i also think it fascinating that in turn an actor can create a character within that world. this is an image for me of god as creator and of people in god's image also being creators. this is a theme that i think on alot while painting so many different creative people. this painting however feels more razor-like to me with the image of a scale in hitchcock's hands and the almost puppeteer relationship he has to cary grant. i feel the edge of a maker's power to create or destroy. at the very least it was fun to make and i hope that it is fun to look at.

Wow, the difference in styles are great. The background, and two men all stand out and compliment eachother. Both of their work is great in a similar way, but I never conected them before...

cary grant is taking a glass of milk that may have poison up the stairs to his wife who is in bed. hitchcock put a light bulb in the milk to make it glow.

thanks again. nice to hear from paris. sadly, i have lost touch with my friend there who took a week to give me the most intense walking tour of the city once. i have visited twice, but i hope to get the chance to return and see more. by the way, i always enjoy seeing your photos. always fun and uplifting. and of course a reminder of your beautiful home town.
