Description Heterodon kennerlyi - Mexican hognose snake

I found this neonate in SE Arizona recently. I was targetting them near small ponds in desert sand/scrub habitat.

Wow such an adorable baby with HUGE eyes! It also looks like she was hissing at you...so hard to be scared of tiny little snake! (And yes I really did squee when I saw this.)

She actually didn't do any hissing, bluffing, or death feigning of any kind!

Eiiiii! I couldn't have resisted the urge to pick her up and take her home. ^^ I'm glad I don't live where they are native or I would get myself into a lot of trouble!

Haha. They're legal to collect, within limits of course. Mexican hogs can be found from Southeast Arizona, where I found this one through southern New Mexico and into Southwest Texas. Western hogs have a much bigger range though, and much higher numbers.
