Description A male peacock at Hart Park in Bakersfield, California.

This park has a wild population of peafowl, brought in at some point in/around the 50's. They love to show off in the early mornings.

I love these colors. For some reason I first thought it was a hyperrealistic drawing. Great job!

Ahh do you think so? That's exciting to hear. I'd love to go out again and play with those birds more. In the early morning, especially springtime, they are glad to show off. I think I was only three meters from him when I took this photo, and he ended up letting me get even closer than that.

Yeah, peacocks don't really seem shy in general, from my experience. At the local zoo, I've seen them just run around everywhere and get very close to people.

Nice perspective.  I like that you decided to not center the bird in the image.  Creates a unique angle.

Beautiful photo. I think what I like most about it, is that it isn't super bright. It seems that everybody always bumps up the exposure on peacock photos (especially when they are fanning their tail), so this is a nice change

Thank you! I also don't like when people over saturate their colours - they are plenty saturated enough, naturally. ^^

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Oh, really? Goodness, now I'm curious. I've thought about what it would be like to keep one but I've never really considered it.

If I may ask, what are they like, behaviour-wise? Do they enjoy being petted and the sort? I have two Rose Ringed Parakeets and they sometimes like being rubbed under their wings. -u-

Also, thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed the photo. c:

FailureInArt In reply to michaelaforbus [2013-08-18 12:51:50 +0000 UTC]

Aye yeah, they are awesome 'pets' just very noisy in the morning, they have a morning call like a cockrel but its more like a screech. They are quite independent but do come to there names. We often find the male has wandered off into the next farm. They're pretty friendly most of the time apart from when the female has chicks and when the male loses his feathers he isn't a happy boy so he sulks under a bush for a while. But other than that they're awesome and its great seeing peoples faces when they see you have peacocks haha.

And your welcome its beautiful

I was so surprised the first time I heard their call.  How can such lovely birds make such an obnoxious noise?

This is a great photo! Striking! The feathered eyes are magnificent of the peacock. It's nice how you put the subject to the side. (:

Thank you so much! I wanted him off to the side to avoid the typical head-on perspective.

They definitely are incredible. It's interesting though, how such a lovely animal can make such an awkward noise. Have you ever heard their call? o:
