King Laufey concept art for "Thor", directed by Kenneth Branagh.The challenge for designing the Frost Giants was to give them a fierce appearance while still evoking a feel of an intelligent, sophisticated race; instead of ending up with a bunch of strong but dumb brutes or the typical movie monsters.

I could be wrong, but I was told that in a lot of the old legends the frost giants actually had horns. I wonder why this wasn't used in the designs of the frost giants in the Thor movie.
Lovely artwork by the way, but I can't help but thinking that a nice pair of horns would have looked fabulous on Laufey.

In the original myths, Laufey was a jΓΆtunn woman, as a handful of others have mentioned below (Loki's father's called FΓ‘rbauti). However, the art's simply marvelous, and I love his cunning, slightly amused expression.

Laufey must have "lounging on thrones" genes, because his son loves to do that, too. The lightin, the pose, the feeling this invokes...it's just perfect <3
