Description Ok seriously This bothers me! Someone told me that my pokemon OC was a mary sue just because she's girly. And also she may reflect on me a little but she's not like me THAT much! My pokemon OC is strong willed and a bit sarcastic, and normally Mary Sue's are an authors want to be like that. Well I don't wanna be sarcastic -_-; and so she really needs to STFU!!!

Beeing girly is not the Sue-Point. Beeing perfect over all and everything make a Character a Mary-Sue. ._.

I agree completely, just because a character is girly in no way means she's a Mary Sue. However, failure to elaborate in what ways that she's girly can give people the IMPRESSION that she's a bit flat of character, but that's only when viewing information in a 'character sheet'.
If this person told you this after reading through your story, however, then the only way it could be possibly justified is if somehow, someway, they feel that the character's actions don't line up with the others' reactions. Eg: oc is constantly stopping to fix up hair in reflective surfaces, but other characters continue to think it's funny/cute, even after the hundredth time.
So you see, they might just not have the communicative skills to convey that they feel that a situation is a little skewed, and that they feel that it might require some attention, so they did the next best things in their mind: create a fuss and make you doubt yourself in the hopes that you'll correct whatever THEY have perceived as 'wrong'.
Wow, I didn't mean for this to be so long... Anyways, long story short, it's NEVER okay to simply label someone's character a Mary Sue. If you ever feel something's amiss, simply offer some friendly advice, or ask for clarification. A little tact can go a long way.

What the hell, that's just ridiculous.

EVERY EACH CHARACTER CAN BE A MARY SUE. YES, even the tomboys, people - tomboy-characters can be too cool and kickass in my opinion if you aren't careful with them.

I don't like being girly myself nor I don't care about girly characters in general, but that still doesn't mean that I'll go all "MARY SUE!!1!" on 'em.

Keep doing as much girly characters as you want. The person who you talked with seems to know nothing about Mary Sues.

She was being a real -insert word I'm not gonna say here- to me. I did tell her that I had my OC has brown hair because I prefer brown hair maybe because I personally have brown hair and she totally took it the wrong way.

There's nothing wrong with my OC having a girly side, SHE'S FEMININE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! IS THAT WRONG?!?! It's not because she's got enough faults to make it so she's NOT a mary-sue

...what? So, just because you have a brown hair and you make a character with the same hair colour as yours, she bcomes a total Sue? Ridiculous.

Indeed, if your character has real faults, she's not a Sue.

Besides, what bothers me is this self-instert thing. I hate how the second people see a self-insert, they bring out the Sue-card.

People should think about it - if you're a novice writer/drawer and you need pratice, isn't one of the best things you could write or draw about yourself? Because you know yourself the best. Then, after you're experienced enough, you can start to make real and your own characters with their positive traits and faults.

Stupid right? I just like brown hair a lot is that such a big deal that I give my OC a similar shade as my hair or should it be something stupid like black and blue just so it in no way seems like a self-insert. Jeez.

Exactly she's just a, made-up, human being. I made her with human like faults and a human like personality. Sue's are not and I repeat NOT human in any way shape or form.

Self inserts could be just people doodling. I made a version of myself looking like I was in the anime. Big deal. I'm not making myself be a trainer I just drew me in the real world (but I look like a pokemon character)

Exactly, except I've been trying to develop this character for a while... however she is till in the works and she should have given me some slack.

Thanks for the support :3

I agree with everything you say there. I've actually seen some great self-insterts with their strenghts and weaknesses... but then again, they are rare compared to the shit when many people just make an idealized version of themselves... (Stephenie Meyer, anyone?)

No problem. :3

Sorry, my dad blocked deviantART at my house and it's also blocked at school. But it's all good, at least for now.

But yes it's agrivating that people shut themselves down on self-inserts. Self-inserts doesn't mean a Mary/Gary sue.

Wow, really? Huh, well, that's something I've never heard before.

Exactly that. I use my self-insert character a lot in different fandoms, but I try to make sure that along with my strenghts she also has my flaws. That way she fits in and would be like just a regular fan character.

Psh, actually, tomboys can be Mary-Sues too. As in, "OMG I HATE MEN LITTLE FUCKTARD I WILL CUT YOUR BALLS OFF"

"OMG GAIZ LOOK HOW TOMBOYISH I AM ISN'T IT ADORABLE AND ENDEARING?!?!?!??!? I AM SUCH AN EMPOWERED WOMAN"

And actually, I just recently made the first female and truly girly OC that I have in a while (I usually roleplay men) and I was unusually nervous about making her sound Mary-Sue-ish, too. I wonder why that is? I guess it's because the traditional Mary-Sue IS quite girly, but above all just lacks the depth that a thought-out character does?

Or maybe that's because the internet today is a little too fine-tuned to what they declare "sue-ish" characters. Much like your someone -eyeroll-.

Why shouldn't a female character be feminine? Being a feminine woman is bad now? Seriously, people who think that way don't know the first thing about Mary Sues.
