Description Model Chris Kramer in all his glory ( well at least I think he came out as good). This piece is quite large and it was really hard to scan. Why is it in blue you may ask? This was part of a monochromatic piece in which my art professor randomly tored out a b/w magazine ad. I chose blue’s and grays to color him. The complimentary orange is part of the background. This took only about 6 hours to draw and forever to color. I used only colored pencils and ebony. The background is simple since the piece was due only a day before finishing it. It kind of resembles a cave or something( yes, it’a machete in his hand). Please don’t mind the blurriness, my scanner sucks. You can view the original image here and compare: [link]

Hope you all like it!

I notice a little off-ess about the proportions (although, I can't brag, mine aren't any better) but the whole feeling, and the model's face, are just beautiful. Great job!

That's wonderful. I know porportion is difficult, and you're off to a great start, but let me point out some areas that need improvement. I noticed some areas, like the crotch area, seems to be a little big. The chin to chest is one head-length; the chest to stomac is one hedlength; the stomac to the pelvis is one head-length. And even with long angles, you're legs should still be fairly close to one head-length; unless of course, you're drawing it with you looking up from the floor; then it needs to be close to 1 1/2 to two head lengths. And your arms are great. Just work on you're body porportion and it's great. A small tip for arms: Arms are close to one head-length, and the hand is one face size (from the eye brows to the chin); the hands come down to about the thies. I don't mean to rip on your work, you're a wonderful, imporving artist, and this is pretty good and well drawn. I just hope some of the suggestions I mentioned make sense. Great job

Wow, I ddin´t notice these things with this work since I based it on a scale but I guess not everything came out perfectly. I´ll keep in mind the proportion tips, thanks.

You have a very interesting style--it's like a realistic type comic. I particularly like the texture of his clothing...it's got that folded fabric feel. Nice job and keep up the good work.

Impressive drawing you have there. I really like the monochromatic effect of blue since it really sets the picture's mood. Perhaps more impressive of all is the model. You must have put and amazing amount of effort in drawing out the model and the clothes he wears. Your coloring job (although at some parts rough and uneven) and style is great, and it does at some points bring out the realistic-looking clothing folds. The lighting and shadowing look fantastic and you seem to know where to shade in the shadows, etc.

michiru1 In reply to Idiosyzygic [2006-06-03 23:05:08 +0000 UTC]

Wow!, thanks so much for giving such a detailed critique!. Yes, some parts are uneven since I got really tired at times and had to hurry due to the art class deadline. I really tried hard to make the folds look realistic and it was excepcionally hard to to since I had to color it in a fragment of a centimeter at a time. I really appreciate your comment, thanks again!

that is briliant , the blue overtone really works! how big is it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

michiru1 In reply to Morphinebunny [2006-06-02 22:01:13 +0000 UTC]

It´s really big, about 14 inches x 12, a really odd measurement for anything on paper. It was a bitch to scan. Thanks!

Oo I like this one tons of detail expressive and excellent proportions I like the color to the blue makes the figure seem really distant off in his own world.

ok for one you did a great job on the detail in the leather jacket..

however there is alot of detail lost in the pants... blue is a good color for this piece.. however.. you woulkd have been better off using the darker and deeper blues with more consistent texture throughout the piece.. there isint enough blue imo..

all in all I like it... I'd like it more if you made better more excessive use of the blue.. ie fingers pants

and next time take more time.. use smaller strokes... patience creates amazing pieces and grainyness sucks

all in all good work buddy

michiru1 In reply to Thuump [2006-06-02 14:18:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for commenting!, I really should have given it more time but my deadline for my art class made me rush. I also lacked blues so I had to use greys, maybe it´s the fact thar crayola pencils aren´t that good.

This is really good! There is so much detail. It seems like a fantasy / sci-fi take on the original photo. I like it. I like how it almost looks like he is glowing. Great use of the colors (well, the different hues of the one color ). Great face and hair!
