Description After Dark Knight came out, I figured there'd be alot of stylized Harley Quinns popping up all over the place in effort to make her look more suitable to Christopher Nolan's concept of Gotham. Well... I'm sad to say that I'm a little disappointed. What everyone seems to think is that cyberpunk equals psychopath. While some of these designs are really kind of cool, it's just not how I think Harley Quinn should be treated. She's a psychologist, people, not some tweenager who suddenly decides to go from average pedestrian to Hot Topic robbing fangirl from hell. She's smart, she's professional, she got her PhD at a really young age... and really? If she's going to crack and become a gun toting character, I don't think she's going down the route of Insane Clown Posse. I tried doing something akin to the cyberpunk look before this, but it didn't look right. Then I realized... what do successful professionals DO when they have a psychotic breakdown? They become Patrick Bateman from American Psycho. You couldn't tell by looking at him that he liked to chase girls down naked with chainsaws. Or Hannibal Lecter, who would guess he was a cannibal? Even the Joker in DK isn't all THAT obnoxiously characteristic. If he didn't wear makeup, he'd look just like a mob stooge, and Harley Quinn would follow in his footsteps. So... here is my rendition of the clown princess, complete with scars. I figure Mr J would mark his territory in like fashion. Take a lesson from true psychopaths, my darlings, the majority aren't cyberpunks.

Harley Quinn is copyrighted to DC, this design based on Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight'.

Ah you've mentioned some of my very favourite psycopaths there... and this design suits Harley well! I really don't think Joker would put up with any of the aforementioned cyberpunk princesses ... no matter which version of him you're reffering to.

I never really thought Harl's would have scars. I don't know why; Perhaps Mister J thinks she opens her mouth too much as it is.
Aside from that, holy god, thank you. Honestly, this is spot on. Honestly, this is one of my favorites I've seen thus far. This is delightfully feasible! I would WEAR this!
I might have too, actually, if I can find the skirt and shirt- Put it on a to-do list, if it wouldn't bother you too much.
Bonus points for professional, sensible shoes, too!

Ha, I suppose she does talk too much for a bigger mouth, but I figure that he would either mark her as he does other victims (and she just doesn't go away), or she would do it herself to be closer to him. Depends on several factors. Thanks for the comment though. If I ever get a fashion line, I'll have this made up.

erm, just saying but didn't she have to basically use "womanly wiles" in order to get through med? (don't get me wrong, I love the character to death, just the smart and professional thing isn't quite accurate)

No, it's not accurate I concur, but there have been liberties taken with Nolan's portrayal of several characters within the Batman universe, based on a certain story style he's going for. And for the sake of argument (I don't disagree, mind you, but just a shot) what about using feminine charm makes her less intelligent or professional? Or does it make her more intelligent and clever for knowing how and when to use it? I mean of course it depends on the woman trying to get her way, some of them are really stupid, but I don't read Harley that way in the comics all the time. It often depends on the writing team behind that particular story arch. Sometimes she's just downright annoying and lacking in smarts, sometimes there seems to be a method to madness.
This is her in a way I would like to see her should she appear in the Nolanverse. Thanks for the comment.

good point on both accounts, Nolan's portrayal of the characters have been far from what I'm used to so based on his story line Harley probably would be a very skilled and intelligent woman. And personally I had always seen Harley as smart in her own way, but not what I would usually consider highly intelligent (i.e. being able to get through med school without having to make "arrangements") but still, very good point.
well, anyway, this is awesome artwork no matter how you look at the character

Wow, I totally forgot to say what I originally intended to before...
I meant to say before about her gymnastic-stuff is that it would be hard to do in a pencil skirt.

Oh, sure, I agree. I've thought alot about tackling her gymnastics background, but decided to go without it being a major issue in the design because Harley seems to be changing into something darker and not so silly as she usually is. Silly as we know her doesn't seem to have a place in Nolanverse, and I'm also drawing inspiration from her portrayal in Joker the graphic novel that came out shortly after DK. I really like her attitude in that, though I would have liked her to play a bigger part and maybe show a bit more of how she would translate in these recent takes of Batman. I also agree with you that it is more of a transition costume design rather than full on HQ. Another thought I had was that she would probably have multiple things to wear in the Nolanverse. Joker has a signature look, but Harley is still new to this way of life and probably clings subconciously to a bit of normalcy. So while she'd wear a catsuit to fight Batman, I think she'd look something like this when in a meeting with the mafia.

Thanks for the comment and taking the time to bring that up! It's a valid point, and one that I've considered, definitely. I'm glad you like it.

I totally agree with what you said, the cyberpunk-versions just aren't Harley. But to me, this seems more like the transition of Harleen to Harley rather than her full-on Harley Quinn persona. One of her major aspects is her gymnastic abilites, and she's also quite silly in the way that it's hard to guess her next move. I don't know if that last part made sense... it did in my head...
Anyway, I really like this (I want that shirt!) and it DEFINITELY fits her better than that cyberpunk crap.

You have no idea how happy I am to see something like this!

I share your exact opinion! I love some people's designs, but I always thought Harley should be more series and professional in TDK. Even though the punky, clowny looks are cool, I like your design better.
Some people tried putting her in mix matched suits and whatnot, but I think this fits her well. She looks more like the joker and more fitting; With the crazy print professional shirt, and the other regular garments that just happen to stand out.

MAkes me happy someone sees this way too!

No doubt, because that's the real Harley Quinn. It makes sense. This is just an alternative design to all the cyberpunk Harleys I'm seeing. Thanks for the input!
