Today's prompt: Poison

Wanna join me? Check out all of the MidMist October Art Challenge  Prompts!

Aaaaalrighty. Almost caught up! Yesterday's prompt was Poison! I was super hyped to do this one, and I am super happy with how it turned out! I knew from day 1 that I wanted to do a full piece featuring this beautiful Nightmare design I got from my super fab friend SmiifKoqla ! Meet Toxicity! A corrupt Dream Beast, also known as a Nightmare! These horrifying creatures are the product of a broken sanity gemstone, and they will leave a wake of fears and night terrors as they pass through any given area. because of this, Nightmares are usually hunted and killed by the species. Toxicity however lacking in sanity they may be, has tried to cut themselves off from anyone that they might harm, and as such, is left alone.

For more information on the species, owned by SmiifKoqla please head to the page!

Also thanks a ton Martith for your tips! I know it isn't perfect by any means, but I am trying!

so, first things first, i love the character it looks very original. i love hoe the eyes stand out and the color scheme for the creature. But the background makes it really hard to see the character and what appears to be flames (i'm sorry if they are not flames that what they look like to me) it really takes away my eyes onto that instead of the character. When you see something there is usually the few things that stand out and i don't think you wanted the fire to be the on to do that. Also, with the flames there should be almost a sort of a glow around it. Also, it should give lighting onto the horns and face more. The only other thing i would say is that the anatomy of the head looks a bit off, the skull looks like it might be a little out of proportions. I'm not trying to be rude, i freaking love this~~~

The lighting here as well as the background are things that have been pointed out actually, and I totally agree I need to work on both aspects! owo

As for the anatomy, it can be tricky when working with a species that isn't realistic. I know the eyes were a bit too large, but I was working off an actual image, and the anatomy looked a little weird there too if that's any indication.

Nevertheless. Thank you so much for the critique! I will keep all this in mind as I move forward!

i totally agree with unrealistic species, just keep practicing the bone structure to keep everything n proportions~~

I'm soo impressede by your skill here. You've managed to catch the theme very conviniently. The overall atmosphere is delightfully dark and mysterious, just like the theme suggests. The pink flame over the character's head looks very believable. Character is proportional, a bit creepy - in good way - and also is very close to a realistic looking creature that you'd be afraid to meet in the darkness e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="387" title=" (Wink)"/>

I especially like the colors you chose. Sticking to the purple-blueish color palette was a good idea for this topic. The bright eyes and the flame are excellent - they stand out from the dark, emphasizing the uncanny nature of the artwork.

The reason behind the 4,5 rating of technique are the little mistakes, that if fixed, could make this painting deservedly epic. Background is maybe a bit too dark - the character merge too strongly with the darkness behind it. Also the pink flame, for being so intense, should leave more afterglow on the closest elements, like top of the horns, forehead and ears. There should be also a bit more glow on the shoulers, right next to the border of the painting, so it could easily help the character to pop out from the background.

Overally, I'm amazed by the amount of improvement you show with every new painting. The fact that with all your strength and humility you have challenged yourself into creating in realistic style, despite feeling dissatisfied by your previous attempts, shows how strong-willed and talented artist you are. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c… " width="20" height="20" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="60" title="Clap"/>

I'm so glad you like my critique! I'm a critique noob haha but it was a pleasure <3 I know you'll improve greatly and that you will be able to create even more incredible artworks <3 and critiques without showing the negative stuff are not really critiques, so ya know... obligatory xD

Love it. Seriously I really love when people take the time to tell me what's great and not so great about my work. I love it even more when I can actually see what they mean when they say something, which I could for sure here. I can't wait to be able to work on more realistic pieces!

Ahh. Thank you! I don't usually draw like this, but I needed to vent out all my feelings on art so I was like. Imma go realistic yeah. I know the eyes are a bit too big for realism by the way hah. I had to make them bigger because they looked odd?

Can't wait to read le critiqueeee!
