Impmon, secretly Beelzemon the Demon Lord of Gluttony, has infiltrated the DigiDestined for some time now to gather intel on them, learning their strengths and weaknesses, and lure them into trusting their own foe. He has gathered more than enough on them to stab them in the back and destroy them for good, but he can't seem to bring himself to even consider it anymore. In the time he's spent with them, Impmon had grown quite close to the only child of the group who has yet to find her Digimon partner Faybelle. While she was so shy and insecure, she was also surprisingly brave, smart, kind, and curiously endearing. He couldn't help but develop an attachment to her as she had worn down his tough guy attitude and genuinely earned his respect. The lies he once fed her to manipulate her trust had turned into something sincere as Impmon grew more and more fond of her despite his better instincts. Impmon even promised to become Faybelle's Digimon partner if she still could not find them by the next full moon, making his decision to leave the Demon Lords and join the DigiDestined.

Unfortunately, their promise would never come to pass...

While the two were out on their own, Faybelle and Impmon encountered Barbamon, the Demon Lord of Greed and the most cunning schemer of the Seven Great Demon Lords. Impmon tried to protect Faybelle, but he was no match for the Demon Lord in his current state. Barbamon simply brushed Impmon's attacks aside and revealed Impmon's true identity right in front of Faybelle. Faybelle is shocked to hear Barbamon refer to Impmon as Beelzemon, but refuses to believe it. After all, Impmon was her friend and the Digimon she felt the deepest connection with. Sure, he had an attitude and could be full of himself, but he had become a precious friend to her and he had always been there for her. He even promised to become her Digimon partner! There was simply no way that the feisty yet lovable Impmon she knew could be the cruel and devious Beelzemon, right? However, when she calls out to Impmon to deny Barbamon's claims, Impmon remains silent and refuses to look at her. She keeps begging him to tell her that Barbamon's words can't be true, but Impmon can't find his voice. He doesn't want to keep lying to her, and he can't bear to see the look that must be on her face right now. All Impmon can do is struggle to find the words to explain and prey for forgiveness.

Sadly, Impmon's silence and refusal to even look her way told Faybelle everything. Barbamon wasn't lying. Impmon really was Beelzemon and had tricked the DigiDestined to learn their secrets and destroy them. As much as Faybelle didn't want to believe it, she now knew the truth and couldn't hold back her tears. Impmon noticed Barbamon trying to take advantage of Faybelle's distress to attack, making him snap out of his personal crisis and rush to save her. Instead, Barbamon changes his target midway upon noticing Impmon's intervention and uses his staff to enthrall Impmon, hypnotizing him to turn evil again. Impmon desperately tries to fight back against Barbamon's influence over him, but is too mentally unstable and weak compared to Barbamon to overcome the darkness corrupting his mind. Before Faybelle can process what happened, Impmon turns to her with a wicked grin and gives a mocking apology for deceiving her before Digivolving into Devidramon. All Faybelle can do is run to the safety of the other DigiDestined and hope to escape the two Demon Lords with her friends' help.

(This is another concept idea I had for the Digimon comic I want to make. Here, Impmon is acting as a spy after de-Digivolving from Beelzemon due to certain circumstances and accidentally gets too close to one of the DigiDestined he was supposed to deceive. He even ends up genuinely caring for her and wanting to be a friend to her for real. However, the other Demon Lords aren't so willing to let Impmon go. Barbamon ends up stepping in and forcing Impmon to return to his evil ways in front of Faybelle, completely devastating her and reclaiming the Demon Lord of Gluttony. I was a bit inspired by this scene from NiGHTS: Journey Of Dreams: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmhtaJ… . Needles to say, their tragedy has only just begun.)
