This piece took 26 hours. I did it in mostly 4 hour intervals within a month.
The tattoo itself is a tribal phoenix. In tarot the scorpio(zodiac) is the death card, but it's not actually a definitively negative card, it means that only through ending one thing can something better happen along. I had a rough time when I was younger and it took a lot to pull myself through it. This tattoo reminds me every day that bad things happen, but better things will always follow if we stay strong and give ourselves the chance to let them.
It was partially my design, I did see one similar I liked from an anime. The tattoo was his source of power and I took that meaning into myself as well.    
I have another tattoo of a purple butterfly on my foot with a green aura. In some myths it is believed that butterflies symbolize the spirits of the dead and when they visit you it means that a loved one is watching over you. My grandfather passed away on Easter Sunday awhile back, and he was the signally most important person in my life. He motivated me to be the person I am today. If it wasn't for his constant support I might have lost sight of myself and my goals.
I am always looking for new tattoo ideas but I like to be inspired, as I am sure you can tell! I have a few just artsy tattoos I want to get, including a sleeve, but I haven't found the time or money to encroach such endeavors just yet.

all respect to you, to endure 4 hours at one time! it must have been a hard month!

the tattoo is a wunderfull design and fits well to your perfekt body and your appearance!!
I realy like the graphical character!

Indeed the tattoo is very impressive and shows your strength going through a hard time,
- but other way round, I seem to see the power, the tattoo is giving to you in the most
of your other picts as well.

As the scorpio has also the meaning of a transforming, did the decision
and the process through influenced your mind?

would you like to show the purple butterfly?
which way your thoughts are about a other piece? more something
graphical  or something realistic?

I think particularly tatoos connecting different parts of the body are very impressing.
