Middy frowned, not buying the good news from Jund. Both she and Red were not convinced after seeing and being a witness to Virus’ cruelty at a certain degree.
“He’s harmless now.” He said, flashing a look toward Virus with his head down, “At least until the virus protection wears off.”
Red and Middy sent him a senile look.
“Not that it would break anytime soon.” He lifted his hands up in defense, “It would take a few real hours to get passed Norton.” He frowned a little looking over his shoulder at Virus, “Though, I probably should have used McAfee.”
Red raised an eyebrow while Middy sighed.

“I’m not convinced.” Red said, “How can something like virus protection keep him back? He’s not completely a virus-”
BattleStar came up from behind, “He’s not exactly held back or, the word you’re looking for, contained. He’s more… paralyzed, in a sense, kept in place.” He shrugged, “I don’t know to what extent-”
“Lovely,” Red said over him with sarcasm, “He’s just kept in place. That’s a hell of a lot better than three minutes ago.”

Middy sighed, “What if I were to download him again with the virus protection?” She didn’t like the idea, but still let it escape her lips, “Maybe I’ll be able to contain him longer.”
They all shook their heads at the idea.
“That’s a dangerous plan to even think of going by.” Red said, “He almost killed you from the inside last time. Who knows how bad it would be a second time.”
“We’ve already had enough of those ideas, Middy, and don’t want any more repeats of… past events.” BattleStar added, “Just… let us handle it. Keep an eye on Nathan and keep him out of sight until this is over, okay?”
Middy’s eyes drooped as she nodded and walked away. The last thing she heard from the group, “…she’s just a kid.”

She sat down on a slanted piece of rubble that was once part of the inner walls of the shelter.
“Damn biased adults.” She kicked a rock sitting next to her shoe, “Don’t think I can handle it- Just kid…-? I KNOW I SCREWED UP-” she took a deep breath and lied back, “but I can still help. They can at least let me try to fix a few screw ups instead of putting me on babysitting duty. The kid’s only three years younger than me for Christ’s sake.”
Middy looked down in defeat. They had every right not to trust her. Especially by the choices she had made.
“D-dammit…” she shakily growled in frustration.

Red reluctantly made a choice. She volunteered to scan the paralyzed Virus to measure the amount of corruption held in his data. Her grip tightened around the silver rectangle. Its yellow light at one end blinked every few seconds, ready for its next scan. She stopped, finally having second thoughts, only to have a hand gently fall onto her shoulder. She looked back to see KrismPro giving her a reassuring smile. She looked over to see Minx who agreed to accommodate them acquire the data for extra precaution. Red nodded and half smiled, only to frown when she turned back around toward the mission at hand.

They walked to center of the crater from Jund’s PraisetheSun, now charred from Minx opening a portal for Virus’ Firestorm. Red approached Virus, pointing the device in his direction. Sadly, she had to get closer and trace his body before releasing the next scanner. She traced his arms and legs up to his neck. His eyes were closed. She swallowed her fear and continued, tracing passed his face. She jumped when Virus’ eyes suddenly opened to look at her, but forced herself to calm down in order to continue. His eyes followed her; emotionless_ blank, like a surveillance camera_ just… watching. This, of course, immediately made her uncomfortable. She quickly finished on his data and unleashed two small scanner drones that circulated around and scanned his coding, taking a few steps back to the comfort of her two friends.

She quickly read the scanners, only to finally release her held breath to see the results were as Jund and BattleStar had assured. He was kept in place, with his coding contained within the virus protection, preventing him from trying anything. She passed the scanner to Krism and Minx to have a look. But just as she put down her guard down, the ground began to quake. The scanner shrieked beeps as the tremors increased, eventually exploding from an overload.

Middy got up, feeling the tremors in the ground. She looked outside to see Nathan watching on top of a stack of rubble from the crumbled doorway, watching over the small crowd. Middy got up, hanging onto what was left of the doorway as she watched over the crowd as well, seeing the crater rise, holding all too familiar sapphire flames emanating from deep within the cracks.
