Thank you everyone for creating such amazing characters and stories, it was a joy to draw them all for my Monkvalley mass attack 2023. <3

I like to challenge myself with Art Fight projects and this one included plenty of challenges! Character interactions, poses, expressions, clothes, and backgrounds, these are all things I do not feel the most confident with. I’ve mainly drawn portraits, sketches in a void, or single character pictures with rather simple backgrounds, so I really pushed my limits with this project.

And I’m not the only one whose limits were pushed: This was the biggest canvas I’ve worked on, to a point my SAI was complaining about insufficient memory capacity when I tried to add the background, which I really like in all its simplicity: it lets the characters and linework shine while still giving the feel of mountain valley. I eventually had to merge all the character lines and colors to lessen the load, which unfortunately means there is no easy way to make corrections. I wish I had had time to add more shadowing into the characters, it would have made them pop so much more.

While I’ve done mosaics and comic pages with multiple characters, this is the most characters I’ve ever drawn into a single scene! It was challenging to make the scene feel organic so that everyone would appear natural while interacting with the background and each other. My friends were kind by letting me take reference photos of them sitting around, it really helped me figure out the poses, scale and dimensions.
