I love this way this combines Charles Addams' drawings with Carolyn Jones' facial contours!

My brother actually pointed this out to me- the Addams Family were supposed to be ca-razee freaky ooky! But...
Morticia and Gomez quite openly loved each other in a healthy, highly mutually respectful relationship. Morticia, though being a woman in that era, was independant, intelligent and equaqlly head of household. Gomez was independantly wealthy, intellegent and a highly skilled businessman. The children were very family orientated, well educated, (Wednesday often demonstrated a great deal of history knowledge while Pugsly was quite scientifically prolific) clearly not spoilt, despite the wealth, and highly content in their lifestyle- never whinging about what was popular or rebelling against their parents etc... They were a close knit family, living with their Grandmama and Uncle, all very affectionate towards each other and considering the amount of guests they got, very socially connected and generous. Lurch, even though he was the "help" a role often used in a demeaning way in other shows of the era, was respected, treated like the rest of the family and clearly able to pursue anything he wished. They were open minded and enthusiastic about new things...
So... in the end, who exactly are the crazy ones?
This is a fabulous piece of work, I saw it online once and have been looking for it ever since <3

I LOVE every detail of this. Her dress, especially the shoulders and the collar. Her content expression with a certain resemblance to Angelica Houston. Her hands that could have slipped to claw-like but you made them elegant. The snake jaws holding the vase. The art nouveau frame and the faded colors with red accents... Everything is GORGEOUS.

See, this always struck me as odd because I've always thought of roses as a dark, symbolic, sometimes macabre symbol. Which, well, you know, makes Morticia seem -REALLY- weird to me.

i know it's strange it's just that well i hate to admitt it but i've only seen a couple of episodes, but i have seen the movies a lot. I did figure that was why. I do intend to educate myself on them more however because i must live up to my name.

well I'll admit I haven't seen a lot of the actual TV show either ahah! But it's so OLD! The movies are sufficient, no one is a better Morticia, in my opinion, than Angelica Houston :}

Love it but why does she snip the heads off of Roses just to ask

miggetymary In reply to Wednesday-Addams7 [2008-11-20 03:00:42 +0000 UTC]
I am surprised you ask that since your online name is Wednesday Addams! She does that on the TV show and in the movie. It's just because the Addams are so odd and macabre - they don't like things that are typically happy or pretty. It's funny!
