Well, at least in this case, C.H. Greenblatt is choosing to end it after the 2nd season, clearly having the foresight to give it closure while he still can.

Definitely. It's a shame that show runners actually have to consider being closed out preemptively and have to have these short run story arcs, but I'm glad that both this show and Gravity Falls read the room and didn't try to go for a third season. That said, I'm pissed that they have to pretty much dump the thing on Nicktoons because it doesn't fit in line with airing the same 2 cartoons and 4 kidcoms over and over all day.
And for the record, not too happy about the rebrand of TMNT at the end of this upcoming season. Happy they didn't get rid of it completely, but I've experienced the "let's do it more kid friendly" thing last TMNT series when we got Fast Forward.

And on the flip side of the coin, I'm also not liking how networks these days are renewing successful cartoons in a kneejerk fashion before the season has finished, even if it's for shows I like. For one, Star Vs. the Forces of Evil just got renewed for a 4th season ahead of the 3rd one's eventual premiere, and Elena of Avalor got a 3rd season when the 1st hasn't finished airing yet! This sort of thing doesn't happen with live-action shows (at best they just get their episode count slashed), so why is it so acceptable for animation?
And as for the 2D reboot of TMNT coming next fall, at least they're starting off with a clean slate to make the more light-hearted tone less jarring, unlike Fast Forward from the 4Kids series or the Red Sky seasons of the Fred Wolf iteration (though in that case it was darker and edgier).

I don't mind that from the staff's point of view. At least they can plan ahead instead of setting things up they can't possibly finish or rush things to the finish line. I can totally see them renewing Avalor from a purely marketing perspective, and I'm sure Star will be able to flourish with some even deeper story lines. Still, shame that they couldn't extend that to Wander.

Yeah. We need more of those awful live action sitcoms that kids supposedly like.
