I've only read the translation (can't speak or read Russian; I'm very bad with languages), but yes. I liked it a great deal.

oh yes i would!
it's a detective which takes place during victorian epoch so yes you can make certain parallels but that's not the main reason - i just love Mark's writing, the language and humour are just splendid ^^
