Description

This photo is part of a collaborative project called Capturing Change, developed by DeviantArt in association with SONY. Me and three other photographers got to experience the Alpha mirrorless cameras on an assignment to document the changes of our cities and the cultures within them.

I chose to travel around three cities, which would represent different stages of evolution. This one I chose to represent the fast growing city and how it challenges nature and people's lives on its way to become a metropolis of southern Brazil.

And before all that, it was just green.

THE SHOOT

When I got involved in this project, I immediately thought about Camboriú. It's a rapidly growing city and it grew out of a small beach resort, in the last 40 years or so. I knew there was a good vantage point up in the north side of the city from which you can see the older part of town and then the new skyscrapers and the overwhelming city lights. For more impact, I chose to shoot at night and hoped for clear skies, but got rain instead. I endure and so did the camera and we stayed there for about two hours, soaking wet, to get the right shots, including multi-shot panoramas and HDR. It was worth it. The view also included nature elements and I knew I had something there to represent my concept.

In the back you can see the south end of the beach and a bit of the ocean.
