I wonder if you have a link to a "step by step guide" for how to customize Unity the way you did.. I looked for it all over and couldn't find..

Nothing special has been done with Unity Paz. I have installed Awoken icons (link in description) using PPA - you can find step by step instructions in Awoken icons description.
Then I have installed Gray Revenge theme from here:[link]
Extract the zip file and move the 'GrayRevenge' folder to ~/.themes or
~/home/.themes and change GTK and window theme using Ubuntu Tweak. To install Ubuntu Tweak type in terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tualatrix/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak
Bottom dock is "Docky" - available in Ubuntu Software Centre.
Docky theme: Matte (pre-installed), Icon size 26. Docky set to Intelihide

Launcher icons backlight is set to "Backlight toggles" in Ubuntu Tweak>Tweaks>Unity.
