Description

It had been almost a week since Nekubi-han [1] arrived in Sunagakure. The first few days were used as tourism days, as the three Konoha ninja were taken around the village, treated to the best restaurants, and led around the shopping districts to get accustomed to the area they would be living in for another year.

Now that vacation was over, it was time for training to begin. Kawaishi Katori, the captain of the team, was off to meet and train with Sunagakure's ANBU captain, Yasuharu [2], and Marubatsu Saya, the wind user, was sent off to train with Temari, the Kazekage's sister.

Koyanagi Yukimitsu was paired with Kankurou, the puppet master and the brother of the Kazekage,since they shared a similar talent for chakra control. Though she had met Temari-san a few months prior in Konoha, and the Kazekage on their arrival a few days ago, she had never actually seen Kankuro-san in person.

She was currently sitting upon the couch, as Kankuro had a mission and wasn't expected to be due back to the village until later than night. She was scheduled to meet him around 6pm by the Central Office building across the village to start on her specialized training. Her teammates had been long gone on their own training plans, and she was left to be bored and lonely for the entirety of the day (save for a few Suna ANBU members who stopped by to give their greetings). Yuki flipped her long navy hair over her shoulder and sat down with another book, beginning to read the chapter that Saya had been rather ecstatic about.

'Hm...'Art of the Shinobi World', huh?' Yukimitsu thought, flipping through the pages to look at the spastically-placed images, 'I suppose this is interesting...'

Within a few minutes, however, the kunoichi leaned on her hand and dosed off, still a bit tired from the traveling and running around the team had done in the past week.

Yukimitsu awoke, startling herself as she was leaning dangerously foward, about to fall of the sofa. She blinked sleepily a few times, and raked her fingers through her hair, smoothing out the kinks that had formed as she napped.

'What time...'

The kunoichi turned sluggishly towards the wall clock and nearly fell off the couch.

"SHIT. SHIT. SHIT."

The clock read five minutes to six--it took about 5 mins to walk to the Central Office building from where the team was staying, in the Kazekage's property.

With a rather unlady-like grunt, Yukimitsu pushed herself off the couch, and ran to the bathroom to quickly freshen up, only to scream at the terrible condition of her outfit. With another loud noise , the girl dashed to her closet, fished through her wardrobe, and quickly grabbed an outfit that was used for 'civilian cover' (as they were instructed to not reveal they were originally Konoha ninja to the citizens of Suna for covert purposes), grabbed her scarf, and made her way out the door.

"SHIT." Yukimitsu cursed inwardly and bit her tongue in an attempt to silence herself. As she ran towards the Central Office building, she glanced to her right at the large sundial that she was passing--three minutes to six! She would definently make it--she could see the Central Office building from where she was. Almost there!

As Yukimitsu neared the Central Office building, she sensed an unrecognizable, yet familiar and unalarming chakra coming from behind the Central Office building property. Thinking it was Kankuro, Yukimitsu took a long, deep breath to calm herself and slowly walked around the corner, only to come across someone else with great surprise...

"You're late, Koyanagi-san."

[1] Nekubi-han, "Team Nekubi". "Nekubi" means "Assasination" in Japanese, and because of their specialization, the team was given this name. They are also called "Team Kawaishi" after their captain, Kawaishi Katori, but I'd rather use their given Japanese name. :]

[2] So I figure that the 'ANBU' squads in every nation are more of less divided into different sects that specialize in certain battle tactics as well as skill (i.e. in Konoha there was ROOT, etc). Kind of like how BLEACH has their organization system with the Shinigami.

Anyway, I figure there's going to be one MAIN captain, so I gave him a name so I wouldn't have to keep writing, "the sand's ANBU captain". He may or may not make an appearance in UNMASKED!, but at least he has a name. c:

SO ANYWAY.
I'm going to continue with these "images + backstory" submissions...I'M TERRIBLE at manga dialogue, but doing these 'still images' with backstories helps me think of a better story flow. c:

I also figured that if the the three Konoha ninja are ANBU exchange members, that even if they're in Suna, they should still be undercover. Right? So I gave Yukimitsu an alternative outfit. c:

I may or may not give her this alternative outfit--the other maroon/gold outfit is still her MAIN outfit though. c:
