A concept of the Bundesrepublik Deutschland flag as a member of the Atlantic Union.

The Atlantic Union is a political body formed in 2077 after the dissolution of the United States in the wake of a massive attack on it's own soil.

The union's founders were Canada, the European Union and the newly formed North American Republic, which was invaded by the European Union and Canada in an effort to secure it's arsenal and enforce peace, so that North America wouldn't endanger Europe and it's neighbours. Informally, this operation was known as the "Reconquista". Unfortunately, several states refused to join the republic and formed for a second time the Confederate States of America, in alliance with Mexico.

The Atlantic Union has adopted a modified flag of the EU as it's standart (a single star added in the center of the circle) and integrated NATO into it's structures, now designated as the Atlantic Defensive Force, or ADF for short. Effectively, the AU became a superstate, with member countries' governments playing only a subsidiary role in governing.

The Union quickly became one of the most powerful political entities on the planet and spearheaded the development of space technologies that allowed for travel to distant planets and estabilihing permanent colonies in space, a project that failed due to disagreements between the funding countries.

In response to it's formation, China invaded Japan, Korea and Taiwan, as the USA was no longer backing them. The expansion led to hostilities with Russia and India, which in turn triggered a war between the latter and Pakistan. With open war beginning in Asia, the AU patiently waited, amassing firepower and relocating it's troops, preparing to overpower the victor and take Asian countries as provinces of the Atlantic Union.

The main objective of the AU was uniting the world under a single government in an effort to prevent the self-destruction of humanity and expand to the stars, and with the taking of China, it was able to further expand it's base and pave the way for the creation of the UEG - United Earth Government in the 22nd century, which in turn would later create the SolAl - Solar Alliance.
