Description "Good morning, Sophie." A cheerful voice said from behind the girl as she exited her ville apartment room. She looks up to see her British neighbor, Arthur, carrying a few bags from grocery shopping.

"Good morning, Arthur." Sophie replied, smiling sweetly at him.

"Sleep well?" He asked, placing the bags down to unlock his door.

She could only chuckle and reply, sighing a little, "Hardly. The people above my room are so loud. Every 10 minutes I wake up from someone yelling 'magic missile' or something like that."

Arthur rolls his eyes and sighs as well, his breath visible from the cold winter air. "I can hear them from my room as well. I'll be sure to talk to them later." He unlocks his door and starts grabbing the bags. She walk over and take one from him. He smile at her, his gaze looking into her eyes. "Thank you, love."

"No problem." She blushes, smiling as he walks into his room. She quickly follows him, a little nervous about being in his home.

Sophie glances around the room, not surprised at how clean and decorated the place was. The two walk over to his kitchen and place the bags down. She found this moment a good time to ask the British man about the party that night.

"Are you going to the party tonight?" She asked, nervously rubbing his hands together occasionally weaving her fingers together.

Arthur doesn't look up from putting away the groceries and raises a bushy brow. "You mean the one my idiot brother is hosting? Haven't really thought of it..."

'Uh oh...' Sophie thought as her heart sunk a little. 'Is he still having a fight with Alfred?' She forces a sweet smile at him. "OK, I was just curious to see if I'll know anyone there. I was hoping for my friendly neighbor to be there." She giggles a little, winking. She wanted him to get the hint.

The woman had a crush for this man for a time now and they occasionally exchanged friendly flirting but he never showed any romantic interest in her beyond that. She was hoping to become closer to her very handsome neighbor at the New Year's party, that would be a wonderful kick off to the new year for Sophie.

Arthur chuckles at her slight flirtation, a slight blush dusting his cheeks. "Well, if that is the case," He walked around the kitchen counter over to his neighbor and bows to her, his hand extended out. "Would you be so kind to allow me to escort you to the party?" He asked, tilting his head up a little so his emerald eyes peaked through his blonde scruffy hair.

Sophie couldn't help but giggle and took his hand, curtseying. "Of course, my fine man." She said in a fake British accent.

This makes Arthur laugh a little, straightening up. "I think you need a little more work at it but getting better, love." He smiles kindly at her. "Now," He removes his hand from her, must to her disappointment and rolls up his sleeves. "Would you like to make some beef stew with me?"

Sophie wrinkles her nose a little. "Are they as questionable as your scones?"

The man pouts, putting his hands on his hips. "There is absolutely nothing wrong with my scones! It's..." He thinks for a moment, blushing a little. "It's an acquired taste!"

"If you say so, Arthur." She laughed, rolling her eyes. "Let's see how bad your beef stew can be."

Sophie stares at her reflection in the mirror, her hair done up, makeup was hardly noticeable but accented her best features, and her dress fitted perfectly to her figure. She felt nervous. She went to one of Alfred's parties before but never with Arthur. She glances over at the clock. She was ready a few minutes early. Must be her nerves.

She jumps in his seat as she hears a knock on her door. "Coming!" She called out and rushes over to the door. She quickly straightens herself up before opening the door.

There stood Arthur, in a dark green vest over his white dress shirt and black trousers. He looks Sophie over and a blush creeps over his face. He bashfully smiles and glances away from her. "Y-you look very nice, Sophie."

"Thanks." She shyly replies, her cheeks burning. "Shall we go?"

"Oh, of course." He extends his arm to her and leads her to his car once her arm wrapped securely to his. The car ride was a little tense but they made some small talk until they reached Alfred's home. There were many people already dancing and partying outside for the New Year.

Arthur steps out of the car and jogs around to her side and opens the door for her. "My lady." He says charmingly smiling.

Sophie giggles. "Thank you, Arthur." She was enjoying his gentlemanly side because once they step into the party, Arthur will be very different. From his brother's constantly shouting to "friends" teasing him every chance they get. But that was just another side Sophie found charming about Arthur.

Hours fly by as Sophie danced with some other people she knew at the party and drank a little but as she sat down on the grass as Alfred excitedly began to set up fireworks for the count down, Arthur stumbles over to her obviously drunk out of his mind. His vest was gone and his shirt was halfway undone causing the girl to blush at the sight of his chest. His face was completely red.

"Hey~" He slurred a little, laughing for no reason. He was holding an almost completely empty bottle of alcohol. He falls down next to her and barely sits up, continuing to laugh.

"Are you OK?" She asked a little worried that he fell too hard.

"What? I'm perfect! Of course I'm OK!" He laughed, his head rolling back as if he couldn't hold it up. "It's a beautiful night, just about a minute before New Years, and I'm with the most beautiful woman in the entire world!" He shouted, thrusting his bottle in the air before chugging the remaining liquid down.

Sohpie blushes a bright red but knew he was very drunk so paid no mind. "I think you drank enough, Arthur." She laughs a little, taking the empty bottle away from him.

"Aw, come on love~" He slurred, giggles a little as he rested his head on your side. "I didn't drink THAT much."

"I think you did." She replied, putting the bottle down at her side. She had seen the British man drunk before. He always became clingy and emotional. This is just the first time it has been towards her.

"You know," Arthur says, sitting up. Some of the other guests start the count down from 20. "I've always loved you." He grins like a little child at Sophie.

"W-what?" She gasps a little. She looks away shyly, trying to hide her blush. "I-it's the alcohol talking, Arthur. Just sleep it off." The others were now doing the count down from 10. She blushes and tries to take her mind off Arthur by joining the count down.

"No no no." He whined, nuzzling into her shoulder. "I'm serious, S-Sophie. I love you." As the crowd yells 1, Arthur reaches to Sophie's face and pulls it to him, their lips meeting.

At that moment, Alfred fires his barrage of fireworks, filling the sky with a flood of colored lights but those felt so distant to Sophie as she stares into Arthur's emerald eyes, slowly breaking the kiss.

"I love you, Sophie..." Arthur mumbled before passing out on her shoulder.

The woman sits there, shocked and her face an unknown number of red.

"Uh oh, Artie's out cold." A Danish man said from behind the two. Him and Arthur's French "friend" lift him off of Sophie and drape his arms over their shoulders. "We'll get him to bed."

The French man looks at her blushing face and laughs as they drag Arthur away. "Ohonhonhon!"

Sophie ended up staying the night which was most of the other guests' plans as well. She stayed in one of the spare rooms with some girls but she barely slept, her heart kept racing. Her dream came true but it wasn't how she wanted. Arthur was very drunk and obviously wasn't thinking straight. He never really does when he drinks. She always wanted him to confess to her but this shouldn't count.

She feels her stomach in knots and her throat burning and decides to grab a drink of water. She slowly stands and is careful not to wake the others, though it might have been unnecessary seeing how much everyone drank that night.

As she walked out, she finds Arthur hovering over his cup of tea, head in his hands. She feels her cheeks burn with embarrassment and anxiety but she shakes it off and smiles.

"Good morning, Arthur." She says as she sits down across the table.

He groans and mumbles in reply, "I hope yours is better than mine, love." Sophie's heart skips a beat at the word love but quickly composes herself.

There was an awkward silence between the two before Arthur weakly looks up at the girl. His face was a little red. "Hey, Sophie..?"

"Hm?"

"Would you mind if I...." He stops himself, his face burning brighter.

"If you what?" She asked, smiling but her eyes showed confusion.

"Well, it's New Years day and I was wondering if..." He clears his throat and the words stumbled out. "I-ifIcouldgiveyouaNewYear'skiss!"

"I'm sorry?" Sophie leaned in a little, trying to hear him better.

"I-I-I..." He grumbles a little as she lean in more towards him. "Oh, sod it." He quickly leans over and kisses her on the cheek. He slumps in his chair, folding his arms over his chest as she stares at him in shock. "I-I-It's just a New Year's kiss! Nothing to be bloody shocked about..." He mumbled, his face turning many colors of red. "I-I've... Sort of... Kind of... Had a crush on you since we first met..." He grumbles, looking away.

"R-Really?" Sophie couldn't believe her ears. Her long time love, Arthur Kirkland, was confessing to her. Another awkward silence fell between the two. "I..." She began, breaking the silence. "I've had a crush on you as well..."

Arthur's face lights up, his emerald eyes twinkling in surprise and joy. "Truly?"

Sophie grins, her face bright red and nods. "Yes."

Arthur stares at her for a moment, before pinching himself. He winces a little and laughs, embarrassed. "Sorry, usually this is where I wake up."

Sophie rolls her eyes and gets up from her seat. Arthur watches her curiously as she walks next to him and leans down, gently placing her lips onto his. It was passionate and deep unlike the previous one which tasted of alcohol and was forceful.

Once they broke apart just a few centimeters, Arthur smiles gently at his love and whispers, "This is much better than a dream."
