Summary:

This piece was sketch some time ago (more than 2 years) when there was a power failure. I simply sketch it on a piece of A4 paper and filed it up. I scanned it with my cousin's HP scanner and put it up on DeviantArt.

I have been playing with photoshop cs2 for some time mainly for editing some pictures and adding minor special effects like glow. Not until recently, I took my first step into the world of digital coloring. I have been coloring with only water colors and have been amazed by alot of amazing artwork in DeviantArt.

Having say that, I took this piece for an experiment. I started with cleaning up the drawing by using gimp to do the line art. I use its default with the fade effect. It was tough initially but I was hooked to it.

After the line art, I created another layer to apply all the flat colors. I used both the magic wand and pen tool for selection.

Then I created another layer to apply the shadow. In this case i used the pen tool for selection. Basically I just imagine where the shadow will be casted and drew the line art for it and then using the bucket tool, filling them up.

After several hours of familiarising with Gimp, I finished the coloring partially. yay~~~

P.S. By the way, I think this method is called Cell Shading. I realised it when I was searching the net for information on using the pen tool of photoshop cs2

The website is < [link] >. I think its really a good page for tutorials.
