Description Such strange insects but very cool. Harmless yet people freak when they see them. They can't bite, sting, scratch or do anything except vibrate and make a loug ass noise

and they have cool eyes

I love cicadas... I'll never forget the summer I spent in southern france, when I heard them for the first time

Ah, that head is one of the most mundanely, deliciously alien structures on this planet.

Thanks,
Never seen one?? I've seen them since I was like 10. It was quite a while since I saw them again until just recently, but you can always hear them during summer. The annual green/darkbrown/black ones live 2 to 10 years underground emerging at random, so you usually see some every summer. I know the 17 year cicada is like black/orange with red eyes, and obviously only come out every 17 years.. all at once, they live for a day and breed and then die while the larvae hibernate underground and appear 17 years later. kinda crazy

I think it's the size and the fact that they vibrate. It makes you think it's trying to bite. Very skilled rendering.

Yea, people hear the noise, they think of Bees and Wasps and probably just see a big flying insect that makes them think it's dangerous. It's funny how slow they are when not flying.

Whoa, this looks very good, you've captured so many details that escape the common eye.

I'm not scared of cicadas, and I even like them, but once when I was relaxing on vacation in Croatia (beautiful sea) one landed on my hand when I wasn't looking, and for some reason I closed my fingers, it started buzzing and I freaked out knocking my lunch ><

haha,
yea the buzzing can feel a little eerie, making you think it's going to do something but they're like sloths of the insect world.

well, I didn't know what was in my hand at first (I was looking the other way), that's why I freaked out >< Normally I let those things walk all over my as long as I know where they are.

I freakin' love Cicada's! Sometimes I can find their shells they leave on trees! They're so pretty! but don't be in a place with a lot of'em making their noise or your ears'll ring for a few days..

Yea, we had a bunch of their shedded exoskeletons all over our wooden fence this past summer. That's another really cool thing about them. Back in a park where I used to live, the trees would have like 20 shells around the base.
