You're right. Grievous is a tough one. You did a very good rendering this subject, Mill. I would encourage you to take the next step: ink. Maybe a little scarey, but not nearly as scarey as Grievous! *smile* I know you might not want to risk an already successful pencil drawing...but you really don't have to. Simply make a bunch or copies of the pencil piece and practice inking on THEM instead.

Definately consider stepping up to inking your pieces. I think, once you've developed the skill, you will be much more happy with the effectiveness of your images. As I said...by working on COPIES of your original pencilwork...there is no risk of ruining a drawing you spent alot of time working out in pencil form.

I recommend the use of a brush-pen. Takes a bit of practice to get the hang of it, but it's worth the effort. I only use drawing pens for detailing. The human eye likes to see variation. A line of varying weight is more interesting to look at. Brush lines provide that look. Plus...a brush-pen makes it easy to fill large black areas.

I do the same. It's nice to make them smile and feel special. Parents always laugh because I have a flock of kids around me. They worry at first because usually I'm at a hospital or clinic that they are bothering me, but once I assure them I'm happy to draw for the kids it makes them happy too.

Lol, same here. I've had plenty of parents apologizing for their kids "bothering" me, but I always tell them that I love making them smile, and if drawing Star Wars subjects or talking about it makes them happy, then I'm happy. I swear, everywhere I go, kids always come over and check out what I'm doing. It's gotten to the point where I prefer to carry my laptop around so I can show rather than tell what I do (quite a varied lineup of interests, really: drawing natch, painting, modeling, playing piano, and a bunch of other hobbies. The sheer variety is always guaranteed to get a "That's so cool!" from some kid, which always makes me smile).

Oh yeah I'm in a small farm area too. The town has a population of less than 1000... And it's mostly mennonites... So suffice to say sci-fi doesn't go over well with the adults. Kids are far more interesting to talk to at times lol. My mom puts me in charge of shopping for my young cousins because I know what all the toys are. XD
And aye, iPads are great for on the go portfolio. I got mine last year and love it!

I'd say Grievous turned out pretty well. I particularly like how you did his face and shaded the darker recesses.
