“Why do you have to leave?” Nala asked pleadingly as she looked her daughter in the eye, Dusk shook her head and exhaled impatiently.
“I need to be free, mum. I can’t stay here my whole life, exploring is my passion!” The hunger for adventure dripped from Dusk’s voice as she repeated herself once more. The fear was evident in Nala’s eyes and her heart began to race as she tried to think of a reason for Dusk to stay.
“But it's dangerous out there! You remember how I found you don't you? How could you want to roam around when you have such a beautiful home here?” By now the conversation had come to a complete stop and the repetition was driving Dusk crazy but suddenly she noticed the sadness that engulfed Nala’s entrancing eyes and her expression softened.
“I will always come back, I promise- this is my home. THIS is where I belong.” Her tone was calmer and as she explained she walked toward her mother.
“Please, just promise me you’ll be safe…”
Nala didn’t even finish speaking before Dusk nuzzled her, the warmth of her mother’s breath against her back comforted her and she nodded confidently before turning toward the glistening sunset. Her journey awaited her.
