The textured-pencil shading style definitely has its use. In this case, it adds a lot of definition to the cheeks and the scruff under his chin, while still using limited colors.
I looked at previous portraits for reference. I notice the shape of the face has changed now...it's a bit wider and fluffier, which I find cute. (You've got to give me the number of your stylist.
