Description Three doughnut shaped polymer clay beads.

These beads are about 2cm (¾") across. The hole for threading the bead goes right through the doughnut, missing the doughnut hole - this not only means that the thred is not seen through the whole in the doughnut, but also that it is weighted so it will always fall in the right way, rather than showing the rather plainer back of the doughnut. The end of the bead sticking out of the body of the dougnut is to stop the clay being eroded by the wire when it is threaded - I have noticed that polymer wears away into a groove when it is threaded with something like tiger tail, so I insert these little beads into the exit pints of the clay to stop anything like that happening, and it really works very well.

Made from lightweight polymer clay with a semi-transparent polymer clay used for the icing and tiny little pink beads used for the hundreds and thousands...

WOW these are sooo cute! Me and my friend had a girly polymer bead session last night. Attempting various types of beads to go in my dreads I just got. But these are amazing! Nice to see polymer put to good use I think I severely underestimated polymer till I started doin my research. Definately thinking I can see a new obsession starting lol

how did you make them?

Mimi-Mushroom In reply to agentgingerbread [2007-04-21 22:29:27 +0000 UTC]

They're quite simple - the hardest thing is smoothing over the join in the clay when you form the doughnut - but a little time and patience and you can completely smooth out the join.

The amount of detail you put in is incredible! Especially putting the beads in so the wire doesn't wear away the clay, amazing

I remeber once that I got a few necklaces from a shop that were made with the same material, and it really upset me that the beads were wearing and then falling off, so it just came to me to put the glass beads there, and it definately works!

Awesome, it's little things like that, and the uneven weight distribution so they fall right, that make these really special

LOL I don't think I wanna open that can of worms - it's taken years for her to stop asking me how to check her mail, although she's now well versed at Ebay, uses Skype and has even started playing computer games!

My mum won't go near a computer - not because she couldn't learn (she is a bright, intelligent 45 year old), but because she likes to revel in her ignorance... She loves to ask me to travel all the way to her house to do something mind-bogglingly simple but boring, and she loves for me to have to write her CV for her, etc - she could easily learn, but by not learning it means that she can get someone else to do it...

Not bad at all - a bit tired because I have been traveling a lot between London (which as you may know is in the souths of England) and Lancaster (which is in the very north) and all the travelling between the two has worn me out a bit, and now we are having a new kitchen fitted, so the noise, the NOISE! I have invested in ear-plugs to top my nerves from shattering and to let me get on with a few things at least.

Unfortunately though I have been doing the same long journey for 7 years now... Backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards - it's not exactly going to see the wide world - I could tell you every bush and sheep we pass on the way on the train - I've seen them that many times before!

Wow, these do look edible! They'd be fun strung round a bracelet together. These made me giggle considering a doughnut (or donut) bead is usually something like these: [link]

Mimi-Mushroom In reply to talyra [2006-10-07 21:42:35 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I think I may string them onto a bracelet as they are a nice small size and will look good together. I didn't know there was such a thing as a 'doughnut' bead, but I guess these are similar in a way - but actually doughnuts!

lol, thankyou Viscious-Speed, yes, they are rather 'glam' as far as doughnuts go, they look the way a good doughnut tastes, haha. My friend *Scafusss here on DA also has some rather Glam Doughnuts , and they are what gave me the initial inspiration.

Mimi-Mushroom In reply to wolbashi [2006-10-07 17:30:48 +0000 UTC]

We (in England) call the topping on the doughnut 'icing' and the Americans usually use the word 'frosting' I think. See, even when you speak English as a first language it can be confusing! It's the same as when we in the UK spell it 'doughnuts' but in USA they spell it 'donut', and we call the little speckles on the top 'hundreds and thousands' but in America I think they call them 'sprinkles'.

One day English english and American English will be two completely different languages, haha...
