Description Winter had enveloped Ponyville in a cold dark night. Snow had yet to fall but the chill had arrived, deciding to rudely invite itself into Pearl's home. In an attempt to fight off the chill she called upon the chimney, lighting it's illuminating and warming blaze. With it's mighty bark of the heat scared away the cold like a cat. Within her home laid away Pearl as she rummages through some old books and other items late that night

Premium Pearl: Well well.... this old book. I thought I had lost it for good....
She says happily as she pulls the aged grass colored photo album with the words "Memories" written in pen. As she flips through the pages in reminisces she hears the sounds of hoof steps approaching from the dark hallway. Soon, a handsome young, blue colt appeared from the shadows, seemly barely awake. Pearl looked at him, surprised

Pearl: Metzo! What are you doing up so late? You have school tomorrow....

She reminded him, concerned as to why he would wander so late at night. With a yawn he responded

Metzo: I....... can't fall asleep.....

Pearl lays down, opening the book as she invites the young colt to join him.

Pearl: Common, want to look at some old pictures of mine?

Mezto: Sure.....

They flip through the pages together, both fairly interested in the events in them. As they reached the last page Mezto spotted Pearl's family.

Mezto: I didn't know you had a younger sister...

Pearl: Well, I do have a sister but she's the older one. I'm the little rebel sitting back there with the messy mane.

Mezto: No way, she looks nothing like you!

He was utterly shocked. To him his adoptive sister was a model who never let a hair out of place or her fur without sheen. To think she was this filthy little filly made him question a couple of things about her.

Pearl: Well, Mezto I wasn't exactly a perfectly polished gem back then. In fact, I was anything but. You see, my family had split up when I was very young. I stayed with my father while my older sister, Persia Pearl, stayed with my mother. Our mom married another stallion, a doctor, so my sister and her were quite so.... but I however, wasn't so lucky. I lived with my father who struggled just to keep a roof over our heads, there were times we didn't even have that. So, my father spent much of his time juggling three jobs trying to make ends meet while I basically went raising myself. Usually I would scrounge around the beach we lived by looking for sea shells or other pretty things to play with. I never had many toys growing up. I was lucky to get a hand me down from Persia every once in a while. I didn't care about my looks or hygiene or... anything really. I didn't really have a dream. I was just the daughter of the stallion who did the laundry, worked at that one restaurant or even scrub other pony's house floors. Premium Pearl was just another mare on the streets no pony would look twice at.

Metzo: So.... what changed to make you like this?

He listened with wonder, the story dragging him in like a fishing rod.

Pearl: Call it a happy accident or fate.... I was playing down by the beach one evening you see. Father had left for his night job so I was on my own. Like usual I was digging around for things to play with when I came across an ugly, gray oyster. At first I just ignored it, leaving it in the sand when I stepped on it with my back hoof with noticing. When I looked back I found a beautiful, shine pink pearl laying among the shattered pieces of the oyster that held it. Carefully, I picked up the beautiful sparkling orb in my hooves, amazed that such a breath taking thing could be made by such an ugly outside. As I held it I had begun to realize that if such a beautiful thing could come from such a thing.... then why could I not? Maybe the way I was then was the oyster shell and inside me was the beginnings of something as wonderful as the shiny object in my hooves. It inspired me and slowly I began to change... I shed the former self I used to be.... and am now to pony you see in front of you.......

As she turned her head to face Metzo she found him sleeping soundly next to her. He seemed at peace.

Pearl: How rude.... falling asleep in the middle of a story...

She smiled at him, sigh a bit as she nuzzled her adorable adopted little brother. Softly she whispered to him...

Pearl: You always ask why.... Why did I take you in that winter's day at the train station three years ago when no pony would even look at you.... It's because when I first saw you.... you reminded me of myself... so alone.... and not having motives... I took you in because I wanted to see you smile, I wanted you to find your pearl too.... Maybe that was selfish of me.... but I think it's worked out for the best. I love you Metzo.... don't ever forget that.... Good night my little brother.................

May I critique something that seems a little... Well... Distorted? It looks odd to me, either that, or my view on perspective isn't entirely correct. Overall, this piece is quite amazing if I do say so myself.
