Well, alright, let's see what I can offer as my critique))
First of all, let's mention the advantages of this work.
1. I love the color palette. To make a monochrome picture look volumetric is not that easy, and you manage to do it. Even though the picture is drawn with the use of the simple pencil only, it still seems to be coloful. Good choice of the shades here, I approve e.deviantart.net/emoticons/t/t… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="262" title="Thumbs Up"/>
2. The emotions that you put in this work. Damien's eyes explain his feelings rather clearly and accessibly. In addition, the angle that you use so that the mouth is unseen makes the picture look even more powerful, especially combined with this black-and-white atmosphere.
God job on this! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="349" title="Aww"/>
Now I'm going to mention two moments that I don't really find the disadvantages, but that would make the picture even more great if they would be less noticeable.
1. The shading seems to be a little messy. It doesn't spoil the composition really, especially when you know that it touches the slavery topic. But I would work on it a little.
I offer two ways of shading that can make the picture like this look more neat:
a.1) you can shade the whole background circumferentially, like you did it in the top of the picture;
a.2) you can make all the shading lines (erm, I'm not sure I've chosen the correct word lol) strictly parallel to each other and going in one direction. For example, the shading lines on Damien's robe go mostly in one direction, and that makes the robe look neatly colored;
b) the shading of fur usually looks better if you imitate the angles of its growth.
Imagining the real animal usually helps: you only need to remember in which angles the animal's fur grows on different parts of its body.
Though, to be honest, I don't follow this tip usually e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a… " width="19" height="19" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="417" title="Sweating a little..."/> I shade my characters using strictly parallel lines.
2. The eyes. Being honest, they look a little different here, but it's the problem that I have rather often too. Therefore, here is a little tip that can help you. At least, it usually helps me:
- when you finish drawing the eyes, close one of them with your finger and remember in what direction it looks;
- then open it and close the another eye. If you notice that it looks in another direction, you have to correct it.
In this picture, the eye that is closer to us looks toward the middle of the sheet, while the another eye's glance is directed to the top of the picture.
This difference makes the glance look not very clear, not spoiling the emotions palette though, but still. I would work on this a little.
But in general, I love the picture tons and therefore fave it e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="349" title="Aww"/>
I hope that my tips can help you improve, and I can't wait to see more monochrome pictures of yours, because you are really great in making them e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/l… " width="19" height="19" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="577" title="La la la la"/>

You did absolutely gorgeous! Ugh. Shading. I remember when I had to do that in high school! I had to pick an object sitting on a table like a glass bottle, fake grapes, and so on and I had to shade them in, also getting the angle of the light where the Sun was hitting the objects. It was very hard to do, but my picture had came out as a masterpiece!
