...I envy you that experience...and I do LOVE Asian food: especially Thai and Indian. Since I was a little boy I have had a fascination with the East. I had two Great Great Aunts that were missionaries in China during the Boxer Revolution and they kept diaries that I have read many times.
The give away in the picture is the way the 'earthly delights' float around the 'Goddess' and the vivid, beautiful colour!

ah.. there we have something in common.. i also feel drawn towards the east since early childhood.. especially to the indian culture ... 
oh .. those diaries sound most interesting... wouldn't your relatives consider having them published? i can imagine that they have so much to tell.... awesome! my great grand aunt was also the daughter of a missionary in china.. but she doesn't talk much about it unfortunately..
you should try some malay food once.. if there's a restaurant in your area... it is similar to indonesian food.. spicy, they use a lot of peanuts in their cooking.. and coconut.
my speciality in cooking is definitely indian food.. though i can also cook chinese, malay, swiss.. but cooking an indian meal is something special.. i cannot really explain it.. it is like art..... like painting.. very creative and .. well just special

One of my Aunts has those diaries now and she is reluctant to let them out of her sight...as for a Malay restaurant there are a couple of them in Toronto..it's a very multicultural city and there is a huge Asia population and the city is loaded with cafe's and restaurants.
One of my shoots will be in "Little India" a long street of eateries and shops in a predominantly east Asian neighborhood.
