this story is based off of ReikoIrie story, {enough} . it's an amazing story that i suggest you go check oUT ASAP. <3 it takes place in one of the many 2 am calls that you and oikawa share.

Your phone rang, and it's not like it woke you up. You knew it had to happen at one point, considering that these calls happened on more than one occasion. You don't even have to look at the caller ID, you already know it's Oikawa.

"Hm?" Is what you greeted the third year with, your [e/c] eyes trained on the dark [wall colour] ceiling.

"I can't sleep."

"I know."

You hear a whimper over the phone and it was silent for a moment, only the sounds of breathing filling the phone.

"[Name]!?!" Oikawa called this out as if he were afraid you weren't there on the other side of your cell phone. Desperation and panic fills his voice, and it was already coated with tears.

"I'm right here, Tooru."

A staticy sigh of relief came from your cellphone, and you sigh lightly.

"I'm right here, I'm not going anywhere."

"..."

It's silent for a few moments once again, the only thing breaking the tightness is the occasional sound of your best friend letting out a shaky breaths that comes out more like sobs.

"What's gonna happen to me [Name]? I swear, I'm going insane and..."

"You're just fine, Oikawa. It's okay to be sad."

"I-I'm not just sad, you don't understand!! I-I don't want them be here anymore...it's too much, it's all too much. The volleyball, the school, the friends and my family... I just want it all to stop so I can relax for one m-moment in my goddamn life."

You sigh, and your pink lips form a line, and Oikawa can practically hear your stress from over the phone.

"Ah, I'm sorry, [Name]-cha--!"

"Then just relax," you say over the phone, a finger pulling on your bottom lip nervously. "I mean, you know neither me nor Iwa-chan will judge you, right? Hell, you shouldn't even take our opinions into consideration---the only opinion that should matter is yours. But...it's okay not to be strong all the time."

A whimper escapes his throat, and even though he's over the phone, you know that there are silent tears streaming down his face.

"How about this? Tomorrow, after school, we'll go out for some bubble tea. Just you and I, and then we can have cuddles afterwards at my house." You suggest this with a blush tinging your [s/c] face. It's not like you two hadn't cuddled before, but it was always nice, because you two fell asleep like that, and it was more than enough to make your heart skip a beat. "We can watch movies, and you can cry your eyes out over whatever dumb chick flick I put in.

"That sounds really nice, actually," he mumbles quietly, and you smile to yourself in the darkness; the sniffles were starting to fade away, and you turn your head to look at the photo gallery on your wall. Short clipped smiles from Oikawa were in most of the glossy paper's photos, a genuine grin on Iwaizumi's sweaty ass face---considering most of these were selfies taken outside----and straight faces or smirks from you decorated the photo, and it pains you to know that in his own bed, he was crying in the comforting darkness of his own home.

"We'll do that, then." You try to make sure that your voice doesn't break or wobble when you say this.

"Thanks, [Name]."

You nod, even though he can't see you over the phone. "I'm gonna go to bed, alright, Oikawa? I love you."

"...love you too." You pull your phone away from your ear, the intent to hang up looming over you.

"Goodn--"

"---wait!!" Oikawa practically screams, enough to let you hear it from a couple of inches away.

"What, what??" Panic fills your voice, as your phone arrives at your ear again.

It's silent for a moment.

"Have you ever...have you ever been in love?"

A blush creeps up your cheeks, and your [e/c] eyes stares off into the darkness.

"[Name], hello?"

"Y-Yeah, I have." Your words do not flow out of your mouth as smoothly as you'd like them to be. "I actually am in right now. Have you?"

"Yeah. I don't think she likes me, though."

"I'm sure she does."

Another moment of silence passes between the two of you.

"I love you, [Name]."

"I love you too."

The phone goes dead, and you're left with the dial tone to keep you company until you finally hang up as well.
