Description
The cover to my Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker fanfiction, Twisted Fates! Hand drawn of course. You may read the story so far here: www.fanfiction.net/s/9684447/1…
This cover was surprisingly easy for me to draw, but after all, Wind Waker has a very simple art style that still manages to look beautiful! Like I do with all of my fanfic covers, I will elaborate on this one, though there's not as much symbolism here as there are in come of my other covers.
The inspiration for this cover was the new Wind Waker HD group artwork, an image that I simply adore for its excitement and beauty! However, Twisted Fates is in no way as bright and cheerful as the game that its based upon and so I added a level of darkness to the sunset colored sky that hangs above the Great Sea. I'd like to talk about what's in the background first before moving onto the characters. First we have the Pirate Ship, leveled in the background behind the SS Linebeck, which represents the Phantom Hourglass element that will be in the story. To the left we have the King of Red Lions, bringing the Wind Waker itself to mind and behind that is the Tower of Spirits, showing how elements from Spirit Tracks will come into play in the tale later on.
Now we move onto the characters themselves. Since Twisted Fates takes place five years after the events of the Wind Waker, they are all understandably older. Starting with Tetra on the right, who is always a delight to draw (and one of my favorite Zelda characters EVER!). Now 17, Tetra has certainly grown up from the little pirate girl she used to be. He outfit is of course based on the original one, though there are a few changes, most of them having to do with the fact that she's also Princess Zelda, such as her Triforce earrings, the banner that hangs from her belt, and the Triforce tattoo on her right arm. She also has a peg-leg now, as I think it makes her look much more pirate-y!!!!
Then, if course we have the Hero of Winds, Link (no duh). Now also 17, Link has also grown up from the plucky young twelve year old he used to be, into a handsome young man. I didn't change much about his outfit, since its so iconic. He wields a normal sword here, since the Master Sword is now buried at the bottom of the sea. However, I based the design for his new shield upon both the hero's shield and the Hylian shields from other Zelda games. Beside him is Ciela, sporting her usual yellow ;D
Beside Link is Aryll, who is now 13. I gave her a longer dress which looks almost exactly like her old one, only it now has a belt and a different strapping. Her hair is also longer now, as its tied up into two twin braids. Beside Aryll is Medli, also 17, who will play an important role in the story. I came up with most of the tweaks for her new design myself and since I don't really know how to describe them, I won't!
And... now who might that be directly underneath Link, within the dark depths of the ocean? Could that be... Dark Link?!?!?!? Hahaha, well it is ;D I have to say, I 've never properly had Dark Link in one of my stories, and so I decided to go the road less traveled by by making him the main antagonist of a Wind Waker story! I won't say much here to avoid spoilers, so I'll simply say that I based his design after Link's (no freaking duh), though with obvious changed coloration such as the white hair, black clothes, red eyes, ect.
So there's all you need to know about my cover! Enjoy the story!
Plot Sypnosis: The land of Hyrule is forever lost under the waves of the Great Sea, along with the remains of the villainous Ganondorf. Link and Tetra set out to sail the seas in search of a land to build a new Hyrule within, forming a close bond along the way. However, that new found friendship is quickly shattered when they encounter the Ghost Ship, a trap conjured up by the Life Force stealing monster Bellum to lure victims in. To keep Tetra from doing something dangerously reckless, Link goes on board the ominous ship, but no more than a moment after he does, it appears to go down with the hero on it. Tetra and the rest of the crew believe that he was killed in the ship's sinking, but in reality he was whisked away to the World of the Ocean King, where, with the help of Ciela, the fairy and Captain Linebeck, he was able to defeat Bellum and restore peace. However, Link remained trapped within the World of Ocean King while five years passed in both words slowly but surely. Back within the realms of the Great Sea, Tetra, now 17, has spent the past five years embittered and grieved over the loss of the hero, whom she had considered to be one of her few actual friends, and whom she believes she'll never see again. But during a strange natural phenomenon within the World of the Ocean King, Link finds a way to return home, where he finally reunites with Tetra after five years on one fateful night. Though the hero is initially overjoyed to see her again, the pirate captain refuses to believe that he is anything more than another dream or illusion sent to haunt her. Link continues to pursue her, trying to convince her that he really is back, but little do either of them know that something treacherous is rising up from the depths of the sea. An evil that seeks the life of the hero and the love of the pirate girl. The Great Sea has changed... and its nothing like it used to be... Post Wind Waker, references and retcons Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Rated T for violence, blood and some other things. Will definitely feature tons of TeLink shipping!
