Pretty sure that Biz makes arrangements to conserve them. It's almost certainly an improvement over what the Corpus have in mind - they collect animals and hand them over to their Feed and Research division. (IE, the Corpus *do* turn them into Pobber McNuggets.) Biz trades you for the little stuffed animals as a cute way to say "Thanks."
