It's this simple kind of art that attracts the attention of little children. I love how simple yet colourful and lively it is.
This is the kind of art I see in professional children books....Really simple...but it grabs your attention. ^^

How did this get a DD? It has no point and my ten year old sister can draw better than that!

Icetongue In reply to LonelyZoner [2011-08-10 22:15:11 +0000 UTC]

What are you talking about? The picture is meant as a book-illustration aimed at kids, so it definitely does have a point. Really, aside from being a slick vector, it is also colourful, cute and easy on the eyes, which is exactly what the piece tries to achieve.
Besides, DDs are meant as features to draw more attention to certain pieces and artists, not as rewards for being "omg the best art evar!!!".

Don't be hatin' on that walrus.

I know, I was wrong to say that; I didn't really think it through. It's just all this time, the standards of what I thought a DD was were wrong, but now I've realized that a DD doesn't have standards: It's what people enjoy and want to share with others. I admit that I was wrong to say something so rude and hasty, but I'm glad that you and the others have explained to me where I was wrong, so thank you.

(And also, thank you for not lashing out at me, even though I deserve it.)

You're welcome. I believe that misunderstandings exist to be resolved, so there was no need to resort to harsh language. By the way, I appreciate your mature reaction, since I was actually expecting internet-drama. So you just earned some respect from my side.

"Art is passion or it is nothing" .... Haha, looks like you don't know what that even means.
This art here has been recognized as being something that little kids would enjoy seeing. It's a displays of a wonderful mix of colors and animals in a beautiful cartoon-ish style that would really be a treat for their eyes. Thus, serving it's purpose as "art."

Besides, posting a comment such as "How did this get a DD!?" in the comment section? Really? What are you expecting? A reply from the artists explaining himself/herself? Sorry to disappoint you but he/she is not the one who suggested neither chose it as a DD - although you probably already know that. Why don't you direct your question to the ones who chose it? Unless, you were initially intending to be obnoxious. And, judging by the last bit of your comment about your daughter, I'm guessing that really was your intention.

Now, if you don't like it, leave. Simple.

Actually, I was hoping for anyone to reply and explain it to me. That was rude of me to act to hastily; I should've looked at the artist's page before hand, then I would have seen what it was all about. I wasn't saying that it was worthless, I liked the characters. I just didn't see how something so simple could get a DD, and I didn't see the point in the piece. I apologize for that, it's just that all this time what I thought were DD standards was wrong--it's been explained to me that DDs really have no standards, it's just whether or not that piece is liked. So I'm sorry for putting it so rudely, I should've thought things through before saying that.

Last0Wish In reply to LonelyZoner [2011-08-11 13:24:42 +0000 UTC]

You really should apologize to the artist though. But I understand what you mean when you said you didn't know about DD standards. So, it's okay. Don't sweat it.

Yes, it is, but certainly not uncalled for. Daily Deviations are meant for pieces of artwork that stand out from others by either sheer talent, the work put into it, creativity, or the message, and I see none of that here. The only way this stands out is by being atrocious.

theghostlyartist In reply to LonelyZoner [2011-08-10 15:39:37 +0000 UTC]

~don't be silly~
~of course it "has a point"--it makes people (kids and adults) happy~

~just because it isn't "deep" doesn't make it worthless~

~also, it's incredibly well drawn--the art direction and theme were well thought out, the colors are brilliant, and the animals are adorable~

~it works perfectly with the point that the artist was trying to achieve--it makes for a great kids' book~

Actually, I'm really sorry. Please disregard that last comment. I was confused that something so simple could get a DD, but now that I think about it, there are no standards for DDs; just what people like, and I should've thought everything though before posting that comment so hastily. Thank you though, for helping me see that why it was chosen. I feel awful for saying something so rude; it seems like I don't even know what my own signature means.

You argue a good point... I didn't think about it like that. So you're right, it's not worthless, but Daily Deviations are meant for pieces of artwork that stand out from others by either sheer talent, the work put into it, creativity, or the message, and I see none of that here. I just don't understand why it was chosen to be a DD.

Um.. That's a little rude. A DD doesn't always have to be given to the most amazing piece of art in the world. It can be given to something as simple as this.

But that aside, I really like this. The monkey, pig, and lion are my favorites
Congrats, , on the DD!

You were right, the main thing about getting a DD is that it's being enjoyed and shared and doesn't have to be a masterpiece. Thank you for pointing that out to me, I feel awful for saying such a thing, but I can't take those back so I just hope that people forgive me for saying that.
