Friday:

My friend spent two days at my place before we left for Ottawa around 1:30 PM on friday to get to Ottawa. I think we were the first artists to arrive at the convention. It was good for us, since tables were first come, first serve. But, that method proved to be less than ideal. I hope the staff will work on that set up for next year.

The artist's alley was in the hall way as you entered the dealer's room, which would have been a good idea, except we are all cramped together, and some of the last, less fortunate artists, were pushed up on the platform out of direct hallway. A lot of people missed their tables, so we had to direct them upstairs to see the other artist's.

I shared my table with darling , who also let me stay at her place for the weekend. She is super pretty and talented and you all need to go watch her. Our table was next to , who is super talented. I drooled over her Homura print all weekend, and my friend ended up buying it for me on Sunday. She signed it for me and everything - seriously made my day. We were also next to another really talented artist - ! She commissioned me, so I am excited to be doing something for another artist who I look up to. You guys need to go check these artists out, seriously. They inspired me so much!

I also had a bit of a shock/surprise/UGH. Naru2u had a contest this year for the cover again? At least that was what the website said and deviantart. But, instead of having a winner for this year they used my entry from last year without even telling me. I found out from my neighbour making a comment on the cover art for his year, and when I looked over, it was mine. I don't know if it was because they didn't have any entries, or, if they wanted to save themselves having to lose money giving out a prize, but it was a bit of an upset for me. I asked the convention coordinator about it, and he said last year they claimed the rights to my drawing by me entering it in the contest. However, no such rules had been posted. When I asked for a copy of the rules, he said none were posted for last year, so he gave me a copy for rules this year, when there was supposedly no contest to be entered in. He then said to me I should be honored and not offended. The truth is, I was so upset I nearly burst out crying. I would have been okay with it if they had at least asked me or e-mailed me about using my art, or, at least given me the prize. Instead I get insulted and had my name/watermark partially covered up on the merchandise and prints so people aren't even directed to my original work. I don't know what I am going to do yet.

Sales were pretty slow. But, all my cookies were eaten! c:

Saturday:

We had an early start on Saturday. Ree neglected to wear the boots that nearly got her weapon checked on Friday. I was sad, lol.

The sales were fairly slow again, but the convention was small so I could understand why.

Then, I had my day made by two of the sweetest girls ever! and , dressed as Mio and Ritsu from K-ON!, rushed over to my artist alley table and pretty much exploded love all over me. I think I exploded back though, aha, I hope I didn't scare them. They graciously drew me some very wonderful fan art of my OCs! They were so cute handing it to me - I felt like a senpai being handed a love letter from a kouhei! No! Wait! Two cute Kouhei! ; w ; They even wanted by autograph. Fuu, I felt like a celebrity, ehe! Needless to say, they were so precious and sweet, they made my convention. It felt wonderful to meet two people so touched by my art they made a special point of coming to say hello, and bringing me something made right from the heart. I felt really special - thank you for the tender gifts, ladies! I really hope you do try for the artist alley next year! I would love to be your neighbor!

I also got to meet and ! They were really precious - their art was very good! But, they really under priced themselves! Girls, please, don't undervalue your skills! You did excellent work - you deserve to be paid properly for it! c:

Sunday:

Last day of the convention, I had to bid goodbye early as she had to board the bus back to Toronto. As soon as she left I realized that I had forgot to buy the Bio Shock print I wanted from her, and I wallowed in my despair for a good hour.

came over to my table and bought two fleece hats to help support Thor. If I had money to spare I would have bought her art - she is only fifteen and SERIOUSLY awesome. I tried to explain in words how great she did, but I think it came out as indistinguishable nonsense, ha ha.

I met another great artist who does a wide spectrum of awesome prints and crafts - . We had a great discussion about the convention and how it can be improved. I think if all the artists put their heads together we could really improve the organization next year.

The convention coordinator brought over Erin Fitzgerald to my table, who has done voice work for Monster High, Naruto Shippuden, and other works, and had me sign her convention t-shirt that had my art on it since I was the original artist. She signed my convention planner - it was really nice to meet her, but kind of bitter sweet since I was still getting over the use of my art without any notification. She was very sweet and genuine - I'm glad I got to meet her.

My friend, managed to sell her Toothless Quad suit, and I was really proud of her! Good on you! After bidding all the other amazing artist's good bye, we ourselves left the big city for home.

My one regret : not being able to use the starbucks cards I won, lol.

// All in all, this convention was small and unorganized. Sales would have been better if the room had been organized, and if correspondence with the artists had actually existed. I believe the staff can do better in the future and the convention can become a yearly staple.

Thor Update:

Thanks for the convention I have a good chunk of money for Thor's surgery. Thank you all for supporting me by buying my goods or wishing me luck at the convention this weekend.

Thor is getting along very well, but has some respiratory issues. He sneezes and coughs quite a bit, makes rattling noises when he breathes sometimes, which is concerning. The vet made a comment that it might make anesthetic a very critical choice. Right now all we can do is watch closely to see what happens.

Other than that, he is very well adjusted. He pretty much doubled his weight now, ha ha. He is a real glutton. Thor likes to sleep in the sink and on my plants, sleep on my face, lick the windows, and loves to steal socks. He and Twix are really close now, and they always sleep together. They are with each other 24/7 - try to eat from the same dish at the same time, meow in unison, and even groom each other compulsively. It is really cute. Sometimes I catch them sort of making little mewing noises to each other as if they're having a conversation. It's really precious.
