So back when I posted my Tenth Doctor/David Tennant cross stitch , I mentioned I was working on a larger project -- Richard Armitage as Sir Guy of Gisborne from the BBC's Robin Hood. I can't remember when I started working on Guy -- it was sometime between July and September of 2008. I put him away for a while to work on Halloween and winter plushies, then dug him out earlier this year and started stitching again, and I finally finished him a few weeks ago.

Guy was my first semi-serious attempt at creating an original chart. I cleaned up a series 1 screencap and used the free trial version of a program called PCStitch. (The trial version won't let me save charts, and I can't justify $40 for a cross stitch program at the moment, so my charting process involved lots and lots of screencaps, heh.) This was very much a trial-and-error project, and I'm not entirely thrilled with some aspects of the finished product, but I'm pleased overall. I'm still figuring out how to translate details like skin tones without having to use an insane number of nearly identical floss colors. (Guy used 40 or 50 colors, which is insane when you consider how much of the design is solid freakin' black.)

Oh Guy. You adorable puppy. You were worth the months of endless stitching.

The framing job is awful! Because I didn't plan ahead, the design wouldn't fit a standard frame correctly. I finally "letterboxed" it with strips of scrap mat board, which meant I could use an 8x10 frame. Good enough!

Aaaaaand I just charted my next project. Wolverine. Oh yes. *hearts hearts hearts* It will be as epic as a 10x10 square of black Aida cloth can possibly be.
