MiraKHall — Oppositional Reading

Description FINISHED. That's the last time I'm usin' the pen-tool in PS; I think I've lost my patience over that one.

For some reason, I'm not so very proud with it as I hoped I would be... probably because I took too long in-between other projects and procrastinations. Life is just too distracting right now, even with two classes

For a small explanation on my part, I sketched this out after going through a rather unpleasant experience as I checked out ONE random guy's gallery through DA's Today's Favourites. Now, I may be a casual slash fan at times, but I DO have my limits given the whole situation of Homestar Runner's universe. If an episode of SB's email "Do Over" isn't enough, I dunno what it is... All I know is that it's jus' very... wrong

This was done in response to vent out my said oppositional reading according to Stuart Hall's thing-a-majig in my now scrap-a-ded textbook from visual culture and language (was able to find a Acrobat file of the glossary, which is all I really needed, anyway). I can definitely feel the pain for a certain someone who also makes fun of the fandom people as well... in general. Inspired by Kai's comics and Patches' 'Yellow Day' comic.

P.S. If you don't know what 'swing' means... I pity you (no offense to my friends, however.)

Yeah, something like that, but there should be a balloon pop mixed in there as well to simulate a light bulb exploding.

I...Guess...? *Checks to see if the sound fits it more, and it does.* HUH! I guess you were right about that!

Not quite.  The soundbite I'm thinking of is when the Powerpuff Girls were trying to solve the Knight versus Knave riddle when Him had two identicle Ms. Keen (one real and truthful and the other one a fake and a liar) above a shark tank.  When Bubbles and Buttercup get the blank, confused expression after hearing their answer to the one question Blossom asked the Ms. Keens.

I get how bubbles and butter cup were like, " ", but what I don't get is what the sound effect you're talking about, is. If you can, please send me a video link, with the following destination of where to play it at.

Search the episode "Him Diddle Riddle" on YouTube.  I can't seem to find the original example of the knight-or-knave page with the video excerpt I read some years ago...

It's slang for describing one's homosexuality.

YelloFox In reply to MiraKHall [2010-09-10 00:51:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh. Not much different than what I thought it meant. I thought it meant the direction of one's sexuality.

Exactly. I tried to look for it on urban dictionary one time, but I couldn't.

Heh, it's quite interesting how you can tell what a word means by knowing how it's used.

I find yaoi sick too! <-- I fangirl over that icon. But seriously, if the characters are straight, it's not cool. But if you pair TailsxSonic (still pedo) it's not yaoi. (Tails is a giiiirl.)

And you look better without glasses on.

This one was old. These days, I'm lucky if I actually remember to put in my dimples (those beauty-marks-like things on my cheeks; I have dimples IRL). I should do some sketch study of my fursona with glasses, but glasses on a furry is tricky. I have seen it done in ASB [Associated Student Body] comic book mini-series (the main character wears glasses without those ear-rim-thingies).

There IS a limit when it comes to fan art.

I may be a fangirl for many things. But I know when a parring is wrong. And HR is not one of those SLASH things.

Gotta give Marzipan points for guts. She hangs out with stupid, idiotic, college boys everyday and yet she doesn't move and sticks to one guy. Probably because if she DID move away, she'd know that the fangirls would ruin it just like how they ruined Kingdom Hearts. (Again, there IS a limit line)

Love the art, that was my reaction to one part in SBCG4AP episode 3 that I saw (Wii doesn't have enough memory to store the 3rd game). I WASN'T expecting the Cheat to actualy DO that!

MiraKHall In reply to PhantomGirl [2009-04-14 04:32:24 +0000 UTC]

I meant what were you expecting the Cheat to do in SBCG4AP Epi-3? Aside from Marzipan, who's too hippi to do what Strong Bad asks for, the Cheat was the only 'blond' character within the universe (and this is an adventure-like puzzle game we're talking about; it's suppose to make you think, even if it DOES seem wrong )

Thnx. Failure an option, eh? Not when it came to that rocket car in that one revisit special -- I was heart-broken when I saw that fail fantastically

PhantomGirl In reply to MiraKHall [2009-04-14 15:38:57 +0000 UTC]

I guess you're right. I have yet to get episode 4 and 5 though (Not enough blocks on the Wii and not enough money either. College is a pain)

But the look that Jami gave was WORTH IT. Not to mention the sonic wave that occored with the fusion.

I was laughing out loud with the "Instant Convertable" though. Took off like a rocket and over the hill. I thought that it hit someone's car. THAT would have been hard to explain to the insurrance company.

MandyPandaa [2006-02-08 12:06:34 +0000 UTC]

Ohhhh, I've beent there, what with the very odd slash couplings. Most of the slash universe I just find rather amusing and cute at times, it's only when the fans get really serious (you know the drill; killing off female characters 'cause they're in the way, creating some good ol' angst so the characters can comfort each other, etc.) that it can get a bit irritating. ;;; Think that's just a fangirl thing, anyhow. And fangirls of anything are NEVER any fun.

Only H*R slash I can think of came from the talented artist ~humon , and her slashy art is more humorous than anything else.

MiraKHall In reply to MandyPandaa [2006-02-08 17:35:47 +0000 UTC]

Ergh, I remember that artist Man, I dun wanna have those bad memories right now TT_TT *huge fan of Asterix comics and cartoons*

I've theorized it is hormones causing such flares of slashiness -- sex-deprived teenagers, y'know? It's generally a phase and they're considered harmless in SOME cases, but... still...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MandyPandaa In reply to MiraKHall [2006-02-08 19:43:08 +0000 UTC]

Could be true, never really thought too much on it myself. In some cases it can be a little worrying, but mostly I just see it as humor. (Though I MUST admit, whenever I see a fandom I'm very very attached to, I can become a little queasy/irritated ) Humon's said a couple times she's not too serious in her slashings. ^^ I think she just sees them as fun, or at the very least, a li'l cute.
