funny thing... I was looking thru my favs and found that. wondered for a second, then looked at it in full view and now i'm just... wow... speechless.
this picture says so much without any colors and eveyrthing.

I must admit, when I first saw this my immediate thought was of the Lady Magdalene (or Mary Magdalene/whatever you know her by....). A woman, vaguely recognizable as such, praying. But over what? Maybe a love, lost or found. Maybe something many would not forgive. Whatever the reason, a truly magnificent piece, and one that has touched my heart, mind, and soul.

The use of light and shadow and the folds of the clothing are spectacular. I love the pose, with the toes pushed back and the hands clasped to the chest, it's really great. What's the symbol in the backround?
