In Tarot the card numbered XIII is the card named Death. But despite what most people think the card does not actually symbolize a physical death. Instead it symbolizes the following:

Change
Exposure
Transition
Termination
Inevitability

And to change means the death of an old way of life or to leave behind your past. Which is exactly why I chose Blade for this card. Blade's past is riddled with suffering and the struggle to survive. In his choosing to leave his village and try to walk away and forget the past that has tortured and haunted him he is, in my mind, the epitome of this card.

In the picture I drew Blade riding the thief class mount and the reincarnation of his deceased pet, a Roween named River. In the background is Blade's village and a common symbol often seen on the Tarot card, the rising sun. The village is there to show that Blade is leaving it behind, in a way "killing" his connection to the place he was born and raised. The rising sun symbolises a new beginning and fresh start in a day that is hopefully better than the last.

Blade isn't wearing his job clothes because while the Guillotine Cross armour is a good depiction of the litteral meaning of Death I wanted to show something different, something more symbolic of the card's meaning of Change. Hence why Blade's clothes gently shift from black to deep red with a splash of metal on the shoes. The torn sleeve also I put there because, in my mind, it shows that while change is possible it can sometimes leave behind a jagged end that isn't easy to repair, and sometimes change needs an abrupt and sudden end to whatever it is that needs changing.
