I didn't think this episode or "Dragon Quest" or "The Mysterious Mare Do Well" were THAT bad.

I didn't think that those other two episodes were that bad either. But this...this is the WORST.

Not as bad as "Show Stoppers" and especially "Owl's Well that ends well"; that one is worse than "Putting Your Hoof Down".

"Putting Your Hoof Down" is the bottom of the barrel in my opinion.

I actually came up with a way to fix this episode, mostly for an AU where the Nightmare that created Nightmare Moon was accidentally purified in the second episode and turned into an Alicorn filly, who is made a Princess out of necessity due to her Alicorn nature which itself necessitates the whole "traveling around Equestria and its surrounding lands" being moved up in the time-line.
Here's my fix: Twilight, Spike, the filly, Rarity, Pinkie and Fluttershy end up in a distant town that doesn't think highly of Pegasi due to their tendency to hover even when not necessary. Fluttershy ends up babysitting the filly while Twilight and Spike are busy elsewhere. Cue pretty much the canon events but with the alterations of the locale not being Ponyville and the mistreatment being based on actual racism, adding to the intended message of "There's a difference between standing up for yourself and trampling over other people."
The canon episode is pretty terrible though. "Dragon Quest" and "The Mysterious Mare Do Well" are still in the air on whether or not I'm going to fix them or ignore them since the overall plot of the AU isn't set yet; I do know Twilight is going to become an Alicorn but she is not going into the Crystal Empire without back up in the form of Royal Guards, given her role as a mother.
Apologies for rambling; I have an odd desire to take things that were done poorly but had potential (you have to admit the lesson of "No means no." could be excellent if done in a better context) and do them differently and hopefully better, characters and plots alike. Of course some things are beyond help.

hmph I couldn't agree with you more. they not only derailed fluttershy's character in this one but you never hear how not to put your hoof down the right way.... It's no wonder this episode fell apart probably the most worst episode I've ever had the displeasure of watching. Β

No problem it's the most pathetic excuse for an episode.Β

Vampire fruit bats aren't the first critters that she considered calling varmints...

That episode was actually pretty good. And oddly enough, it was from the same woman who wrote THIS episode.

Well, I liked the Flutterbat, but Applejack seemed as I said, out of character.
