Ngara is a past monarch of the Night Pride who lived long, long ago, having been born around the same time as a lion who would go on to become the First King of the Pridelands. Born a simple pridesister, she develops a strong relationship with the pride's prince Lanre as the two grow up, with Lanre later choosing her to be his queen.

While she and Lanre do a good job of ruing their kingdom together, the two lions do have their disagreements on a few things. For one, Lanre wants to reopen the kingdom's entrance for the first time in generations, but Ngara is strongly against this as she claimed that this would put them at risk from dangerous animals, which is why they sealed themselves off generations prior. Not only that, but she also believed that the old legend about the lions of the Night Pride once being able to weld an incredible power was nothing more than that. A legend. Just a fairy tale to help cubs sleep at night. But her mate argues that the Tree of Life was originally meant to be a special haven for outside animals that needed their help and since they've been sealed off from the outside world for so long that would eventually need to welcome fresh blood anyway, and for the first time in generations the entrance to the kingdom is opened once again.

It isnn't long before animals from the outside world start coming to the Tree Of Life to be healed once again, but Ngara still feels that her mate had made a terrible choice. Sure, they haven't been attacked by dangerous animals yet, but who's to say that they wouldn't be? One day, Lanre finds an injured lion named Askari that he discovered during his rounds around the kingdom and brings him back to the Tree of Life to be healed. Ngara is initially suspicious of this lion as she feels that he might have ulterior motives, even after he's healed and starts forming a bond with the pride's healer, Fisayo. Lanre mentions that maybe the incredible power that the Night Pride once wielded might come back through this outsider lion, just as it is mentioned in the old legend, but as usual Ngara scoffs and says that it's just a fairy tale.

Ngara is later proven wrong when she hears the sound of a mighty, earth-shaking roar coming from Cirka Escarpment...
