This is beautiful! Do you have any interest in doing a cover for a fanfic novel?

Wow, thanks for being open to this idea. I've never tried to work with someone on a book cover before, so please forgive me if I step on your toes in any way, and let me know the moment you decide you want out, or you want me to change how I'm interacting with you. There will be no hard feelings on my part, truly.

It's a period AU Downton Abbey novel trilogy that centers around Mary and Matthew. I only need one cover at the moment, but once I finish the third novel (The first is done and I'm one chapter away from completing publication of the second novelβ€”it's in beta at the moment), I'd like to format it for trade publication (I can't make any money on it, of course, but I can still make it available for Kindle, etc.), at which point, I might want three separate covers, one for each of the books. (Side note: if I ever *do* manage to make a cent on it, I will make sure to offer you remuneration for your work at appropriate market prices.)

Anyway, I'm getting way too far ahead of myself.

Here's the story, Trust and Providence, if you want to check it out:

I made a totally basic cover for the fic when I first started publishing it last year, and the only clever thing I did was find and scan in the actual Grantham crest: that's the background image behind the title. But I'm not wedded to anything there and I have no real photoshopping skills to speak of.

Quick summary of the first novel, subtitled "Part I: AFTERMATH": Mary immediately accepts Matthew's first proposal and she tells him about Pamuk. They (and the rest of the family) deal with the repercussions of the Pamuk affair, both in public political terms and in intensely private terms. Pamuk lurks like a shadow over the whole first novel, but it's a happy ending. Except that Matthew is going to be a soldier in WWI...

In "Part II: WAR", Mary and Matthew are married throughout the war. Many of the major events from canon occur, but of course they're wildly different in terms of their impact on the family, because there's no time wasted on Sir Richard Carlisle or Lavinia Swire. The experience of living through WWI, both on the Western Front and on the Home Front, is explored in far more depth than it ever was in canon. Since Mary was infertile throughout this period and never knew it, Mary and Matthew struggle with not conceiving, and then Matthew becomes a paraplegic, just as he did in canon, which only makes matters more difficult. But all is eventually healed for both of them and again, it's a happy ending. Which leaves the Crawley family in a wildly different position at the end of WWI than they were in on the TV show, so we spin off in a vastly different direction for...

"Part III: AMBITION". This spans from 1919-1971, still focusing mainly on Matthew and Mary, with a big side order of Tom and Sybil (with Edith and Anthony tagging along, as they have been since before WWI began). They raise their families, go through the upheavals of the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression (called the Great Slump in the UK), and WWII. Again, although Matthew and Mary both die of natural causes, at different times, in 1971, they will end very happily. As crazy as that sounds, the ending is already written and I'm just looking forward to getting there.

So, if I haven't bowled you over with way too much detail... what do you think?
