Ahh. That's a much better picture...
In light of the Christmas season (in my eyes it starts the day after Thanksgiving
), I painted the nativity...minus the shepherds and such.Acrylic on cork board. -- There are only 3 squares of cork board instead of 4 on my wall now, but I consider it well worth it.

I love everything about this. I especially love the simplified shapes, the vivid colors, and the inspiration to re-purpose a common item. Your cork board lost 25% of it's area, but that 25% went to a glorious cause, indeed!

It's beautifull, but I feel compelled to tell you that the wise men only visited them days later. They did not stay to live in the stable, they had gotten a house by then.

That's quite alright. I'm not as concerned with the matter of what structure they were living in when the wise men came, the point is that the wise men came bearing gifts to the King of Kings born in a manger. I don't feel the need to be concerned with such a small matter when the main point is the birth of our Lord.

Beautiful, simple forms with that focus the eye on the Baby. Nicely done. The cork board makes a good background, too--I never would have thought of it.
However, I choose to follow the Church's ideas about the seasons, not Macy's. Advent starts the Sunday after Thanksgiving (usually)--four weeks before Christmas. Christmas season itself begins on Dec. 25 and is 12 days long, ending Jan. 6.

I don't necessarily follow a season by any religious custom. I just start thinking about Christmas after Thanksgiving. I celebrate Christmas in remembrance of the birth of Christ. I don't think it matters if you celebrate the birth of Christ in June...as long as your heart is in the right place and your thoughts are on the birth of Christ and the fact that God came as a man to save us from ourselves. When you're celebrating the true meaning of Christmas, the "season" doesn't mean much.

Yeah, the Church kind of decided on Dec. 25 because they didn't exactly have a birth certificate. For me, sticking to the liturgical calendar helps me focus on Christ. During Advent, we anticipate His coming, listen to prophecies about the Messiah, hear the angel giving Mary the amazing and probably terrifying news. Between Christmas Day and Epiphany (Jan. 6), we take time to reflect on the wonder of the shepherds, the journey of the Magi, and the Holy Family's escape to Egypt. I like that none of this is scheduled according to the laws of commerce.
