Rush Valley is such a wondrous place. Even though Angelle is not much into automail like her friend Winry, the town still seemed like an interesting place. And she noticed that the people here didn't give her glowers and murmurs like some had done in Central City. The reason her and the Elrics were in Rush Valley was to visit Winry to fix Ed's automail. As the brothers wandered around Rush Valley, Angelle decided to stay with Winry as she prepared her materials and parts. Angelle could see that Winry somewhat looked upset that Ed had destroyed his automail arm.

I can't believe him! He just doesn't understand the wonder that is automail...!

As she kept on ranting, Angelle looked at her amusingly and smiled warmly.

No worries, Winry; I'll make sure to keep him in check next time for you.

Winry looked at Angelle in half bewilderment, half embarassment and blushed.

Huh?! What do you mean by that...?

Angelle giggled but decided it was best not to bewilder her friend while she was at work; she knew automail parts and repair were Winry's forte and specialty, and didn't want to spoil it for her.

Nevermind...Do you want me to help you in something?

Winry obliged, still looking flustered and asked Angelle if she would like to be her official 'salesperson'; to go about around town and tell people to see Winry if they needed repairs. As Angelle went around town, she saw someone who needed a broken vase repaired. She decided to go and help them using Alemony. Though Amestrians weren't fond of Astorians, she could prove to them that her people weren't as bad as they thought.

Surprisingly the people there were in awe of her fixing not only the vase, but other objects as well that were brought by onlookers. Meanwhile, the Elrics continued wandering around town and came across a young man presumably passed out of hunger. The young man introduced himself as Ling Yao, a traveler from the eastern nation of Xing. The brothers also introduce each other and Angelle, who is only a few feet away helping the civilians. The young man explains his reason for being there, that being the Philosopher's Stone.

The Elrics feign that they don't know anything about it, and Ling summons two bodyguards of his to detain the brothers. Ed continues to ignore Ling's request to tell him about the Stone, and the young traveler threatens him, noticing Angelle from the corner of his eye.

Well, if you continue your ploy of ignorance, I'm afraid I'll personally give a not-so-friendly greeting to your little friend there.. .

Ling's devious stare threw Ed off guard, and the two bodyguards and the brothers end up fighting, with the bodyguards showing Xingese offense. Angelle notices the commotion, approaching where the brothers and Ling had been talking after excusing herself with the people.

Why is it that everywhere they go, Ed always has to be getting into fights...?

Ling heard her and smiled, and seemingly was about to detain her himself by grabbing her wrist, but instead turned around himself and introduced himself gallantly.

Hello there little lady! Do you happen to be the girl with the brothers?

Angelle stared at him with wide eyes, confused as to who this young gentleman was.

Yes...And who do I owe the pleasure to...?

Ling looked bright and all smiles, holding onto Angelle's hands.

Ling! Ling Yao from the eastern country of Xing...!

Ling could see it in Angelle's face that she was in disbelief that he had traveled that far.

Goodness! That far? You must be tired and hungry! And across the desert.. .!

Ling placed his hand on his forehead in distress, faking an agonized expression.

Yes! That desert is murderous! And the heat! Crossing that desert is suicide! All for one purpose.. .

Angelle did indeed look concerned, but the commotion from the Elric brothers' fight with Ling's bodyguards kept on distracting her. Ling could see it on Angelle's face that she was anxious to stop the fight.

And...what purpose would that...be...?

With every word she spoke, her eyesight kept on swerving to her side towards the fight. Ling saw this, and sat her down at the table he had been at while him and the brothers had talked before.

I'll tell you over a nice, delicious dessert! Hey, old man!

The elderly man that had served the young traveler's meals to him came forward.

How about one of your lovely desserts for me and the lady.. .my treat!

Angelle continued looking skeptical, widening her eyes in surprise.

Actually, put this entire meal on the metal brothers' tabs.. .

Ling whispered to the man as not to make Angelle hear. During this, the brothers and Ling's two bodyguards continued their violent contest. Ling munched on the succulent chocolate cake that had been placed at the table, placing one hand on his cheek and the other wielding a fork with a piece of cake on it, staring dreamily at her.

So, little lady.. .you're close to the brothers, right? How about tellin' me about.. .the Stone.. .

Angelle raised her eyes and met Ling's, whose had become quite devious. She widened her eyes in shock, but tried not to make it apparent. She cleared her throat as Ling cocked his eyebrows and smiled, dying for her answer.

Well.. .Funny you should ask.. .Heh! Stone? What is this Stone you are talking about?

Ling instantly knew that even Angelle was feigning ignorance towards the Philosopher's Stone. Ling squinted his eyes again, a bit pestered. He was about to say something, but Angelle turned around and saw that the fight between her friends and the bodyguards had ended, as the commotion had seized.
