Description He has long brown hair that is pulled back into a ponytail. It falls between shoulder blades that protrude from a thin back to match thin arms and thin legs. He towers about a foot above a girl in blue jeans and a brown t-shirt who is standing close beside him, her hand wrapped in his. This particular couple catches my attention more so than the other people scattered about, and so I get up from my window seat and move to a table closer to the counter that I can better hear them.

They are smiling and laughing and I watch as the girl looks up at him, her eyes alight with a child-like curiosity and admiration. A happy sort of contentness, I presume.

It seems as if they know the person working at the counter, for he has joined in their carefree conversation.

“See, you seem more like a coffee kind of guy.”

The girl laughs and covers her mouth with her hand. “Are you kidding”, she asks.

“Nope”, says the man behind the counter. “And you seem more like a tea kind of girl.”

Both boyfriend and girlfriend are now laughing, finding this assumption quite amusing.

“Wow”, says the girl. “That is really funny…” She tries to finish, but is over-taken by giggles. Their seems to be a history of inside jokes behind this which are only known between the two of them. “Actually, it’s exactly the opposite…he hates coffee.”

“Really?”

“Yep”, says the boy with the ponytail.

The conversation continues, laughter and smiles finding their way into every nook and cranny of exchanged sentences and comments.

As I watch, I realize how much I really like the way the two of them look at each other…like they really understand one another. It makes me think that maybe it actually is possible to truly know someone else…

They give me hope.
