Description Amanda Marselis.. A vampire since 1715 and residing in New York City for most of that time. Here, she strolls through Central Park at twilight in the fall. She is one of the many characters created by www.deviantart.com/stalindc

Amanda Marselis is the first born daughter of a seventeen year old female African slave named Fanta who was raped by a Portuguese sailor aboard a slave ship bound for North America. When Fanta reached the slave market of the newly acquired English colonial city of New York, she was already three months pregnant. She was sold to a Dutch businessman named August Marselis who owned a distillery and a tannery near the East River. She was purchased to be a worker in the distillery that made several different products.

The slave salesman knew that Fanta was pregnant and sold her to Marselis who saw it as an opportunity to increase his own investment in the future. He purchased Fanta and renamed her Millie. She was delivered to the Marselis house that evening and was placed under the supervision of the slave ovevseer Van Dorn. The Marselis family owned twenty-five slaves that operated both businesses and serviced the Marselis household. Life for a slave owned by August Marselis was not easy, hard work, bad food, poor living conditions and beatings by the overseer. But it was not as harsh as the the lives of African slaves on the northern farms and southern plantations.

August Marselis married the pregnant Millie to a male slave named Homer who worked in the tannery and a baby girl was born in late October 1693. Marselis and all who were there to witness the birth could see that the baby was mixed race. Marselis ordered her to be named Amanda and had Millie moved to the main house to be trained as a domestic servant and raise the light skin baby girl there. His own wife had just given birth to a baby girl and he imagined Amanda as his daughter's slave in the future.

Amanda grew up in the Marselis household and was trained to be a domestic servant. August Marselis's daughter, Maria, grew up into young womanhood with Amanda alongside. Amanda grew into a pretty girl then into a beautiful young woman with smooth, tan skin, long thick, curly black hair and light brown eyes. Her beauty actually outshined that of Maria Marselis who made it a point to have Amanda dress modestly. The two girls were close when they were young, Maria actually teaching Amanda how to read and write secretly. But as The two entered their late teens, Maria drifted away from the friendship and started asserting her superiority over the slave.

By the fall of 1715, Amanda was a trusted domestic servant would often be sent to the market or to deliver messages to friends and business associates of August Marselis around New York City. One evening she was told to fetch the family doctor to the Marselis home, Maria had fallen ill and needed him. Amanda set out and across the area that would one day become Central Park to the doctor's home two miles away. She reached the house and summoned the doctor who immediately made ready to go. Amanda left and returned the way she had come, though the wooded area, when she was attacked by an unknown assailant... a vampire...

And her life... would never be the same again...
