I had to chose one of your great photos to add to my favourites, which was a pretty hard task. I ended up with this one because of the peculiar atmosphere which reminds me of quite a certain mood that I tend to have when the weather is like this.

I had to add something from your gallery to my favourites, although it was pretty hard to decide which one. I chose this one because it reminds me of something... that certain mood that I have when the weather is like this.

thank you again
I think I understand right what mood do you mean I like this time very much (the end of november and december), when winter is just beginning - it's the time of most beautiful snowy twilights, large snowflakes, beautiful melancholy and short days.
and I think this song is very suitable for this picture[link]

Oops, I accindentally posted two comments on your picture, because I thought that I failed to post the first one Anyway, I'm glad to hear they both made you happy, and that I'm not alone with the expression I got from your photo

Btw, in your profile it reads that you're from Russia, so it's interesting to hear you like finnish bands such as Uniklubi, that are not so famous outside our borders

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissLumikki In reply to Perifeerikko [2011-04-21 05:25:04 +0000 UTC]

and I'm glad that I'm not alone too with my mood that I wanted to share by this photo and others
Yes, I live in Russia in Siberia, far away from Europe, but many finnish bands are known here, such as HIM, Negative, Amorphis, Korpiklaani, they have here many fans Uniklubi is less famous, but have some fans here too. I know the name Uniklubi for 5-6 years, but discovered them to me in this winter.. and it was "shot through the heart" their music is wonderful. and finnish language just adding more charm. they was my general inspirers in winter and still they're too
in other countries there are many good bands too, but finnish are "knocking in my soul" more. and it's not only about music, it's about all.
sorry if I get you boring, I just can speak this theme endlessly

I'm not getting bored at all, actually just the opposite I haven't listened Uniklubi so much myself, but Amoprhis is one of my favourite bands. I'm glad it's one of bands you gain inspiration from Which part of Siberia do you live in, then? I have a notion that Siberia is a pretty vast region...

MissLumikki In reply to Perifeerikko [2011-04-22 14:01:16 +0000 UTC]

o, I like Amorphis too but only when they started to sing with clear voice. and all albums with Tomi Joutsen are great! their music create a special mood in me.
I live in central part of Siberia - about 4000 km from Moscow and 5 hours of time difference with Finland It's really a large region - 70% of Russian territory, it's larger than Canada for example it's not good because of very expencive aeroplane and railway tickets.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Perifeerikko In reply to MissLumikki [2011-04-26 10:30:40 +0000 UTC]

How is it that the tickets are expensive? Are they more expensive than elsewhere in Russia per kilometer? I have been thinking about travelling by train from Finland through Russia to Mongolia and China and so I'm interested in this.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissLumikki In reply to Perifeerikko [2011-04-26 15:59:38 +0000 UTC]

wow, so interesting journey you planning that's great!
expensiveness is the relative concept..maybe for you it will be not so expensive for example - an aeroplane ticket Moscow-Krasnojarsk costs now about 300euro (one way), railway ticket - about 150euro.. in summer (when it's season for vacations) it can be more expensive - about 400 and 200-250euro correspondingly. for me it's expensive
so, if you want to journey through Russia to Mongolia and China, you can fly to Moscow and then go by train to Novosibirsk, Krasnojarsk or Vladivostok (from Vladivostok it's easier to go to China), it's 4, 5 and 7 days on the road! as far as I know, it's the most commonly used ways through Russia..

Perifeerikko In reply to MissLumikki [2011-05-03 20:08:56 +0000 UTC]

Well prices for railway tickets and other things are lower in Russia than in Finland, but several hundreds of euros are a lot of money for me too. So I won't be able to make that trip for a while, but I'm planning it already so that I will be able to gather some money and maybe to learn some russian. But thanks for the information! It's very useful to me.

MissLumikki In reply to Perifeerikko [2011-05-05 14:29:35 +0000 UTC]

No problem if you will need for more information, you may always ask, I'll be glad to help and maybe I can help also with language.
(now I studying english at courses and realizing how much russian language is difficult nevertheless, in comparison with english )
Anyway, when you will take this trip - feel welcome to come to Russia hope you will enjoy it

Perifeerikko In reply to MissLumikki [2011-05-14 10:43:46 +0000 UTC]

I'm very grateful for your offer - It's great to know someone to ask about these things Even though I would love to read Dostoyevsky in original language, I think that for a start much more modest skills in russian language will suffice to satisfy my gravest needs - that is, things like buying stuff and not to get in trouble with militia

Actually, I have already visited Russia, but that was just a few hours in the centrum of Saint Petersburg. We spend an couple of hours to find a restaurant with menu's in English - so that's why I think it would be useful to know a little Russian if I was to spend more time in your country

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissLumikki In reply to Perifeerikko [2011-05-15 05:59:37 +0000 UTC]

Heh, shame on St Petersburg that they don't care about foreign guests.. if they don't have menu on English, they must be able to speak English.. some of them are able even to speak Finnish, because they have places to study it (in contrast to Siberia) . Maybe you just weren't fortunate with restaurant.. But I agree with you, to know Russian is very useful in Russia for a lot of reasons! and for read Dostojevsky too (I'm very surprised and amazed. sincere respect for you!!). he is great writer.
And, if honestly, I want to know Finnish language (I love it from childhood), I planned a trip to Finland for many years ago and saving money for it now, and don't want to be an "alien with phrase-book" or speak only on English I began to study this year by myself, using internet lessons, because in my city there aren't any courses, and listening to my favourite Uniklubi, 51koodia, and some others is very helpful to me
and for more knowledge in Russian language and for more useful info about Russia and Russians you can email me - lighter25@mail.ru. I'll be glad to help

Perifeerikko In reply to MissLumikki [2011-05-25 10:56:41 +0000 UTC]

Well, in the St Petersburg case, we finally managed to find a great place to eat I think I'll visit there again next time I'm in St Petersburg. So we were lucky after all. Maybe it took so long because we were tired and had an hangover

Oh, finnish by internet courses, that's an admirable enterprise, because our language is said to be one of more difficult languages to learn But hey, that's an excellent coincidence: you can help me with the russian language, and I can help you with the finnish language You too can contact me via email (jsaynajakangas at gmail.com), but I also have an facebook account: [link]

I hope next your visit to St.Petersburg will be without any problems with misunderstanding
this is very beautiful city and seems to me a little similar with Helsinki in architecture
You right, finnish language is very difficult, but not more than russian, I hope to overcome it and it's really good coincidence, we can help to each other I added you on facebook, Tania Karelina it's me (I'm very lazy to upload photos on account, maybe will do it on one of weekends )

Perifeerikko In reply to MissLumikki [2011-06-03 23:09:21 +0000 UTC]

I also liked the looks of St Petersburg. St Petersburg has surely had great influence in Helsinki's architecture, though admittedly, Helsinki is a much more modest version. Like a little sister to St Petersburg or a smaller version of it

As you noticed, I added you on facebook. For me its an easier tool to communicate since I visit deviantart less frequently.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissLumikki In reply to Perifeerikko [2011-06-04 15:19:08 +0000 UTC]

O, I always thought in contrary - St Petersburg is a "little sister" but I never been neither St Petersburg nor Helsinki and saw only pictures of them..
You're right about facebook, so I will update today and tomorrow my boring profile there and will be there more often

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Perifeerikko In reply to MissLumikki [2011-06-06 20:36:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, not only St Petersburg is a larger a city (what, a five millions inhabitants?) the buildings are also more massive than the ones you see in Helsinki. So when you go from Helsinki to St Petersburg you can't resist the impression that it's a Helsinki magnified doubly

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissLumikki In reply to Perifeerikko [2011-06-07 15:56:21 +0000 UTC]

O, 5millions inhabitants - it's more than in five times more than in my city I was a little underrated St Petersburg I think that I will have a real chance to see "St Petersburg diminished doubly", maybe this year in autumn.

Perifeerikko In reply to MissLumikki [2011-06-07 20:19:52 +0000 UTC]

Wow, great for you What kind of journey have you planned? Coming here to listen Finnish bands live?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissLumikki In reply to Perifeerikko [2011-06-10 11:57:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, why not, if someone of my favourite bands will play there in that time, I'll take a chance to see them! maybe it will be not Finnish band that I like (such as Within Temptation, Bon Jovi, Deathstars, etc) or maybe I'll discover to myself a new Finnish band that I don't know.
And the journey, I project it as a tourist trip to Helsinki (maybe not only Helsinki) where I'll stay in hotel for about 7 days and will go sight-seeing, photograph everything, will go to shops and buy some souvenirs to me and my family...and will just walking on the streets and being happy also I want to go to forest, to see lakes, to eat finnish food, to go to the rock bands performances.. don't know how much it all will be possible maybe these plans will change and I'll go with tourist group, it will depend of cost. I'm planning this trip in october-november (if my job let me go).
you may write me further better on facebook

Montreal, is a very busy place. In the winter we get about the same temperature as you guys. Its a good place to visit if you are into the whole busy city lifestyle and if you like the french language . During the summer it is warm and chaotic on the city streets. During the winter it isn't as bad as the harsh winters you guys get but the cold and the snow keep most people indoors.
