at this point in time, about how long had you been sculpting? I only ask because i just started doing computer sculptures, and this is what im hoping to be doing eventually.

I used Zbrush and 3ds Max for this sculpt.

If you want to be a character artist, I have a journal with some tips over here. I hope they can help! ->Β  Maddy's Tips: Building a Strong PortfolioAfter receiving a few emails recently asking for portfolio feedback and general advice, I decided to write up a small list of tips that can help a student or graduate create a portfolio that game studios will want to look at.
DegreeΒ β‰ Β Job.Β A lot of studios don't look in a resume for where you went to school. The first thing they're interested in the quality of work in your portfolio. If you have the skills, then you probably have the job!
Do more than homework.Β Lot's of college students get turned down by studios because they give them a portfolio that only has school work in it. Studios look for people that create more outside of class. It can range anywhere from fan art to designing your own characters.
Get on forums.Β Stay active on the game art forums like Polycount or others likeΒ CGHubΒ andΒ GameArtisans. Post your work and speak with other aspiring game artists and professionals all over those sites. Lots of studios

MatthewPhelan In reply to MissMaddyTaylor [2013-06-29 08:25:43 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Do you have any step-by-steps?

Do you block out in 3ds max and then refine in Zbrush? What's your process?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MissMaddyTaylor In reply to MatthewPhelan [2013-06-30 03:11:40 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, I don't have any. Still developing a process, but it changes depending on the model. Most organic things are made completely in zbrush while everything else is usually blocked out in 3ds max.
