Description This painting illustrates an old, Swedish legend. This is what the legend is about:

The youths in Hårga used to go out dancing on the Hårga mountain. This evening an unknown fiddler came and played on his violin. It's impossible not to dance to his song so everyone danced and could not stop. They begged him to stop playing but he refused. Soon enough they saw he had goat-feet. It was Satan, and he wouldn't stop playing until everyone had dropped dead.

And this is the song that tells this story, which also is the melody Satan played:

I don't know how you manage to make something so macabre look so fun.

Umm. Yes. Maybe that's the wrong word. Jolly? Festive? Despite all the misery.

I guess it would seem jolly if you're not part of it.

Great! I really love this legend. We have legends that are about the same ^^ Isn't such a creature called a "fossegrim"? Although fossegrims only appear above water... You see, we have about the same myths
Well painted, as always ^^ Love how you've made the sihouettes of the young people (black in the middle, and orange in the bottom). Love it

No, it was Satan himself who appaered in this legend. What you were thinking about is "Näcken" (näck means nude btw). A naked man who sits in rivers and creeks and plays on his violin. His music attracts women who approaches him to see what's going on and then he drowns them.

Doesnt he make passionate love to them with his forked genitalia before drowning them?

Nope, he just wants to kill them.
