Powerpuff returns is a 2017 American animated superhero film , directed and produced by Craig mcCracken, based on the animated characters powerpuff girls. It is the second installment of Warner Bros. ' initial Powerpuff girls film series, with voice actors reprising the title role of powerpuff girls. The film introduces the characters of monkey group, a corrupt business tycoon who teams up with the Rocko socko (Gorilla) to take over City of Townsville, as well as the characters of Mojo Jojo and May Jojo (Chimpanzees).

McCracken originally did not want to direct another Batman film because of his mixed emotions toward the previous film in 2002. Warner Bros. developed a script with writer Amy keating Rogers which had the Rocko socko and May Jojo with Mojo Jojo going after hidden treasure. McCracken agreed to return after they granted him more creative control and replaced Amy with Lauren Faust. Daniel Igram did an uncredited rewrite, removing the others characters and an rewriting the climax. Powerpuff girls was originally cast as Whoopass but became popular in 1992. Filming for Powerpuff returns started in 2017 at Cartoon Network channel.

As a reward, Cobblepot is given access to the Townsville City Archives, where he learns his real name, and that he is the last surviving member of his family. Meanwhile, the Mayor, persuaded by Professor, refuses to give Monkey villain a construction permit for his power plant. Cobblepot orders his gang to attack downtown Townsville, ruining the Mayor's reputation and giving Monkey villain the opportunity to propose Cobblepot as a replacement. Powerpuff girls confronts Cobblepot, but May Jojo and Mojo Jojo appears while firebombing Monkey villain's department store, and Cobblepot escapes. After a fight in which powerpuff girls knocks them off a building, Mojo and May survives their fall.

While May Jojo enters a romantic relationship with Mojo Jojo, as monkey group, she agrees to help Monkey villain with a plan to ruin Powerpuff girls's reputation by framing them for the abduction of Townsville's "Miss Keane" the teacher. While traversing the rooftops to find the Miss Keane, Rocko Socko’s goons disassemble the Powerpuffs and plant a device into the car that will allow Rocko Socko to control it. Distracted by May Jojo and Mojo Jojo, Powerpuff girls is unable to stop monkey villain from murdering the Miss Keane using a swarm of captive flashes who then falls to her death as powerpuff girls is about to save her, making the townspeople believe that Powerpuff girls pushed the Miss Keane to her death. When May Jojo rejects Monkey villain 's amorous advances, he responds by attacking her with his motorized helicopter. As the helictopter takes her up into the sky, Mojo Jojo narrowly save death again of May Jojo as they fall into a rooftop. Fleeing from the police, Powerpuff girls realizes that monkey villain is remotely controlling the Professor, taking it on a rampage through Townsville. Powerpuff girls disables the control device, but not before recording the Rocko Socko's mocking insults about how gullible the people of Townsville are.

At a press conference for monkey villain organized by Shreck, Powerpuff girls broadcasts the recording, destroying monkey villain 's public image. Enraged, monkey villain flees to the sewers and orders his gang to kidnap all of the first born sons of Townsville's citizens. At a masquerade ball hosted by Shreck, Mojo and May deduce each other's secret identities. Monkey villain suddenly invades the party and reveals his intention to drown the kidnapped children, including group, in sewage water, prompting Shreck to offer himself instead. Powerpuff girls defeats the kidnappers, prompting monkey villain to unleash an army of monkey soldiers to destroy Townsville with missiles. Piloting the Powerpuffs through the sewers, The girls redirects the monkeys to instead fire on monkey villain 's hideout. Monkey villain attacks girls in a rage, but ends up falling through the ceiling of his lair and into the toxic water.

May Jojo ambushes Shreck in a vengeful attempt to kill him, but Mojo stops her and relax her, as does May Jojo when she rejects Mojo's attempts to reason with her. Shreck then shoots Mojo before shooting May multiple times until he runs out of bullets, leaving her severely injured, but not mortally wounded. Putting a taser to his lips, May give herself to suicide. Powerpuff girls, who survived, uncovers Shreck's corpse while digging through the rubble in an attempt to find May Jojo.Rocko Socko, appearing mortally wounded, then arises and tries one last time to kill powerpuff girls with his gun, but succumbs to his injuries and dies after collapsing onto the floor. Subsequently, his monkey family carry out out a makeshift funeral that culminates with them pushing his corpse into the water.
