I keep coming back to this one, though it seemed simple enough at first.
The blur suggested motion, as if the bowl had been finished on the wheel and
was still spinning, slightly off-center. The vibration also has a sound quality (as
discussed above). But it is not shaped like a singing bowl (the bottom isn't quite
right).

Here is how it works for me:
I focus on the blur of white at the top lip of the bowl. It shimmers for a moment,
and then the lip of the bowl comes into sharp focus. At that moment I can "hear"
a tone inside my head. When I match that tone the blurry white part opens up
and I can go into the bowl. It's very soothing, and the bowl itself seems to become
wider and more symmetrical. (I don't know what the tone is at the moment, but
I could approximate it on a piano -- offhand, I'd say it was 8 Hz under F#.)

I turn the bowl upside down and it is not a bowl at all. It is the neck and upper chest
of a person ascending from a dark dimension into a light one.
I would keep the image the way it is.

thank you making this bowl sing.
It is a nice piece of china made by a ceramist not far. It cannot sing like a metal bowl, but make a little clear sound.
I know this guy from a long time, he is a wonderful artist and the lines of his pieces are incredibly pure, and the colors are also very beautiful. It's look very oriental.
Years ago, he made a teapot for me on request, a perfect piece. It matched so incredibly what I demanded...Small, and black like metal, and looking quite japanese it it's simplicity. And of course usable for making tea, why not ? I loved it. But he loved it too, and he was so satisfied with his work he was reluctant to sell it to me, he wanted to keep it. At last for the coming exhibition of his work (he was no so famous than today). So I left it to him for after...And then the teapot was sold on the exhibition because he didnt noted the person that the piece was not for sale. So we were both frustrated. So I have a perfect teapot black and invisible to drink things more subtile than tea . And I buy him bowls when I can afford, smaller and smaller because, well, he is more famous and his pieces are more expensive now.

May be. I was considering the framing another way, with more black space around.
I dont know.

Yes, interesting option.

To me, it feels right in the thumbnail size, but does seem a little crowded in the full-size view.

Funny how that works. One of my own images [link] I recently made a framed print of (around 20"), and while I'm still happy with the spacing in the online version, the globe feels crowded in the print. So I may need to rework the image to leave more breathing room in an enlargement.

In real life, size matters ! Finding the right size and colors and paper for print are still important to me.
Understanding is so much more than approbation. Thank you.

I must tell you, I'm a native English speaker, college educated, reasonably well read, over 50, and I'd never heard the word "approbation".

So thank *you* for broadening my vocabulary.

Hum...I am not a native English writer, so approbation may not be an english native word but an illegal immigrant. I just checked on-line Webster and I have it's approbation, but I think approval would be more english.

Yes, I looked it up myself.

"approval" is certainly more common, but sometimes the uncommon is more refreshing.

But anyway, not to lose track of the thought... nice photo!
